Oasis made a poignant tribute to Liam and Noel Gallagher\u2019s mum with a heartfelt dedication at their first Croke Park show.<\/p>\n

Returning to Ireland<\/a> for the first time since 2008 on Saturday night (August 16), the brothers were playing to over 80,000 loyal fans.<\/p>\n

With just two dates announced for Ireland\u2019s national stadium<\/a>, the battle to secure tickets was arguably tougher than any of their UK shows.<\/p>\n

Fans from across the country travelled to the home of GAA, Ireland\u2019s main sporting organisation, to hear their favourite tunes in the flesh.<\/p>\n

The sun was shining throughout the day, with a sea of bucket hats once again circulating around the crowd<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Liam was in a chatty mood, using the occasion to reflect on playing in Croke Park for the first time right before Some Might Say.<\/p>\n

“I think I’m a Croke Park virgin! We haven’t played here before, have we? All I do know [is] this [is] the soberest I’ve been in Ireland since I was about four or five or something like that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Later on in the night, the younger Gallagher brother <\/a>made reference to County Mayo, where his and Noel\u2019s mum Peggy Gallagher is from.<\/p>\n

Despite Oasis being Manchester’s most famous band, both Noel and Liam’s<\/a> mum Peggy and dad Thomas \u2018Tommy\u2019 Gallagher were born in Ireland.<\/p>\n

While County Meath, where Tommy is from, didn\u2019t get a shoutout, Liam dedicated Roll With It to the small town their mum hails from.<\/p>\n

“Is there anyone here from Mayo? Charlestown?” When the crowd cheers, he says: “You’re not all from there!<\/p>\n

\u201cThere’s only around five f***ing people from there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Later on in the evening, it was revealed that Peggy was actually in attendance for the show, with the band dedicating Stand By Me to her.<\/p>\n

Noel\u2019s <\/a>2022 novel Supersonic, which chronicled his rise to the top and eventual fallout with Liam, featured a chapter where he discussed their Irish roots.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are Irish, me and Liam. There is no English blood in us, and anybody who knows that will know there is drinking and then there is Irish drinking. Irish drinking can be endless.<\/p>\n

\u201cOasis could never have existed, been as big, been as important, been as flawed, been as loved and loathed, if we weren\u2019t all predominantly Irish,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

The former High Flying Birds\u2019 frontman also praised Irish fans, saying: \u201cWhen the Irish are sad they are the saddest people in the world, when they are happy they are the happiest people in the world.<\/p>\n
