{"id":351199,"date":"2025-08-17T08:10:13","date_gmt":"2025-08-17T08:10:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/351199\/"},"modified":"2025-08-17T08:10:13","modified_gmt":"2025-08-17T08:10:13","slug":"royal-fans-gobsmacked-after-only-just-learning-king-charles-incredible-fact","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/351199\/","title":{"rendered":"Royal fans gobsmacked after only just learning King Charles incredible fact"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Being the King comes with a whole lot of perks, and some royal fans have only just discovered one major advantage to being the monarch that makes travelling a breeze<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2_BRITAIN-SCOTLAND-ROYALS.jpg\" alt=\"Close up of King Charles   \" loading=\"eager\"  \/>King Charles can move freely between countries without a passport(Image: AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Being the King comes with a whole lot of perks for <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/king-charles-iii\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">King Charles<\/a>, and some royal fans are only just realising the monarch has one major advantage when it comes to travelling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Many people have probably never thought about it, but King Charles doesn\u2019t have a passport or drivers license and is still able to travel freely throughout the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/world-news\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">world<\/a> without the all important documentation that the rest of us need.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The revelation was recently posted on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/reddit\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Reddit<\/a> \u2019s \u2018Today I Learned (TIL)\u2019 forum, with the bemused social media user writing: \u201cTIL that as the reigning monarch of 14 countries, King Charles III is allowed to travel without a passport and drive without a license.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/6_BRITAIN-SCOTLAND-ROYALS.jpg\" alt=\"King Charles\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Royal fans have realised King Charles doesn&#8217;t own a passport or driver&#8217;s license(Image: POOL\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">While Charles is head of the Commonwealth, he is able to travel to countries outside of the Commonwealth without a passport, and has never had to endure passport control or immigration officers when jetting abroad as King.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">His lack of documentation was reported by National Geographic, which said in a profile on the King when he was first crowned: \u201cAs King, he\u2019s also the only person in the UK who can travel without a passport and drive without a licence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The British passport contains a message from King Charles inside, with a request to other nations to allow the holder to pass freely into their country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">As a Reddit commentator elaborated: \u201cAs explained to me, the passport is the state saying \u2018This is who this person is\u2019. In the UK, that state is formulated to express the will of the Royal, so it&#8217;s the King saying \u2018This is who this person is\u2019. In the case of King Charles, it&#8217;d be like writing down \u2018I am me\u2019 on a sheet of paper.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1_BRITAIN-ROYALS.jpg\" alt=\"King Charles III\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Camilla, William and the rest of the royals need a passport but Charles can travel freely without documentation(Image: POOL\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The King\u2019s unique benefit is further explained on the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/royals\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">royal family\u2019s website<\/a>, which clarifies that the rule only applies to Charles, meaning <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/queen-camilla\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Queen Camilla<\/a>, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/prince-william\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Prince William<\/a> and all other members of the Firm need passports to travel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It says: \u201cWhen travelling overseas, the Sovereign does not require a British passport. As a British passport is issued in the name of His Majesty, it is unnecessary for The King to possess one. All other Members of the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/royals\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Royal Family<\/a>, including The Queen and The Prince of Wales, have passports.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe first page of British passports contains a representation of the Royal Arms, together with the following wording: \u2018His Britannic Majesty\u2019s Secretary of State requests and requires in the name of His Majesty all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance and to afford the bearer such assistance and protection as may be necessary\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It then adds: \u201cIn Realms (Commonwealth countries where The King is Sovereign), a similar formula is used, except that the request to all whom it may concern is made in the name of the Realm&#8217;s Governor-General, as The King\u2019s representative in that Realm. In Canada, the request is made in the name of His Majesty by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Within the Reddit comments on the post, many began to speculate on what other random perks come with being King, to which one person cheekily claimed: \u201cThe monarch is also permitted to send letter mail within the UK without needing to affix a stamp.
