Telstra says a large-scale telecommunications outage across southern New South Wales has been resolved.\u00a0<\/p>\n

About 100,000 customers between Nowra and Eden, and as far inland as Bombala, were without internet and phone coverage for more than an hour after an incident at the telco’s North Nowra exchange site.<\/p>\n

A Telstra spokesperson said the situation, which began at about 1pm, was caused by an onsite power outage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Power was quickly restored, but it disrupted services coming from 99 other base stations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Telstra southern NSW regional manager Chris Taylor said services should be back to normal for a majority of customers.<\/p>\n

“All mobile services are now fully restored,” Mr Taylor told ABC Radio Sydney.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“And we’ve got the majority of NBN and fixed services up and running.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“There’s a small number of those that we’ll continue to work on and get restored.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr Taylor said crews had been onsite at North Nowra investigating the cause of the outage.<\/p>\n

“We’ve got a lot of remote monitoring so we knew as soon as there was a problem,” he said.<\/p>\n

“With anything like this, we’ll do a review to understand what the cause was and how we mitigate that in the future.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Shoppers, drinkers affected<\/p>\n

Jemma Tribe, from the Nowra Community Food Store, said she had to close her store because she could not scan products or take eftpos payments.<\/p>\n

“It’s a bit scary not even being able to find out if other people are experiencing this or get a hold of our internet provider, not even being able to text or call,” she said.<\/p>\n

“It was a bit unknown.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bega Country Club bar manager Nigel Gottaas said the outage affected internet at the bar, eftpos sales and phone calls, but luckily it happened when it “wasn’t too busy”.<\/p>\n

“People were using cash, that had cash, otherwise they just waited around,” he said.<\/p>\n
