Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has raised his concerns with Ruben Amorim’s side after their narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal. The Irishman felt that United were lacking a real goalscoring threat but admitted that Bryan Mbeumo, Mathues Cunha and Benjamin Sesko offered encouragement.<\/p>\n
A mistake from goalkeeper Altay Bayindir allowed for Riccardo Calafiori to nod home from close range midway through the first-half. Patrick Dorgu struck the post and Cunha forced a good save from David Raya. However, the error from the Turkish shot-stopper proved to be the decisive moment in the contest.<\/p>\n
Amorim made a host of bold decisions for his first starting 11 of the season with the latest arrival, Sesko, named on the bench for the Premier League<\/a> opener.<\/p>\n However, Keane felt that the low expectations at Old Trafford<\/a> continue to haunt the Portuguese head coach’s side. He said: “Overall, I think the game was poor second-half, the expectations at Man United are so low that everyone’s comfortable with a 1-0 defeat.<\/p>\n “It does worry me (that), couple of the new signings, there’s a bit of encouragement with that, they get you up the pitch, results will improve – it’s always tough against Arsenal.<\/p>\n “But it’s another defeat, no goals. There’s still that worry, I had it before the match, what we saw, but you never felt like United had two or three goals in them.”<\/p>\n He added: “We discussed it many times before, we’re going around in circles, that worry about United at the back. Ultimately, I’m hearing noises about being proud about the performance but they’ve lost the game.<\/p>\n “Talk about not being boring, you’ve got to score otherwise you’re constantly under pressure. The first thing that comes to mind about United in the last 20 to 30 years is the goalscorers, they’ve brought a couple through the door but I don’t see it with the other group.<\/p>\n “Bruno come out and said about the fans but that means little to me, I think the expectations is that low, everyone is almost happy about that.”<\/p>\n For United, they have the opportunity to bounce back in seven days when they travel to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham (4:30pm kick-off).<\/p>\n Amorim will have fresh selection decisions to make, namely between the sticks after Andre Onana’s exclusion, but he will be afforded the opportunity to deploy Sesko from the offset after another week of bedding into the former Sporting CP tactician’s system.<\/p>\n Sky Sports discounted Premier League and EFL package<\/p>\n This article contains affiliate links, we will receive a commission on any sales we generate from it.
