Settlement construction violates international law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The so-called E1 project had been frozen for decades due to pressure from the international community, as many feared the plans would hinder the establishment of a Palestinian state, which proponents of the two-state solution deem necessary to bring peace to the region.<\/p>\n<p>The EU\u2019s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeas.europa.eu\/eeas\/statement-high-representative-israel%E2%80%99s-e1-west-bank-settlement-plan_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">issued a statement Thursday <\/a>urging Israel to cease settlement construction, \u201cnoting its far-reaching implications and the need to consider action to protect the viability of the two-state solution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The hearing for final approval of the plan has been scheduled at record speed for next Wednesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/peacenow.org.il\/en\/e1-validation-scheduled\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to<\/a> the Israeli anti-settlement group Peace Now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter decades of international pressure and freezes, we are breaking conventions and connecting Ma\u2019ale Adumim to Jerusalem.
