{"id":353834,"date":"2025-08-18T09:25:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T09:25:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/353834\/"},"modified":"2025-08-18T09:25:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T09:25:17","slug":"met-office-warns-of-heavy-and-thundery-showers-to-hit-uk-after-week-of-30c-heatwave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/353834\/","title":{"rendered":"Met Office warns of \u2018heavy and thundery\u2019 showers to hit UK after week of 30C heatwave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It comes after the fourth UK heatwave of 2025<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1755509116_800_0_Winter-weather-2018.jpg\" alt=\"Generic windy weather stock picture, taken at MediaCityUK, United Kingdom.  8 February 2018\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Showers could be &#8220;heavy&#8221; and &#8220;thundery&#8221; in parts of the UK tonight(Image: Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Met Office has warned of &#8220;thundery&#8221; and &#8220;heavy&#8221; showers in parts of the UK from tonight, as &#8220;changeable&#8221; conditions are forecast for later this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It comes after the UK has experienced its fourth heatwave of summer so far, with temperatures surpassing 30C in parts of the country over the past week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The heatwave was set to last throughout the weekend but in some parts of the country the temperature dropped by a few degrees which resulted in a cooler weekend for some.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Although the heatwave is over, temperatures are set to remain in the 20Cs for most of the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Met Office&#8217;s UK-wide forecast for Monday evening (August 18) reads: &#8220;A few showers continuing to affect the southwest overnight, perhaps turning thundery at times. Otherwise North Sea cloud probably expanding back inland, with a little drizzle in places.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In a post shared on social media platform X, formerly known as <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/twitter\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>, the Met Office said: &#8220;Monday morning will start quite cloudy for most of us, perhaps with the odd spot of drizzle in the east.<\/p>\n<p>Content cannot be displayed without consent<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Sunnier skies in some western areas and slowly brightening up elsewhere through the morning. Showers possible in the far southwest, these locally heavy and thundery.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Looking at the long-range forecast for the UK between Friday, August 22, and Sunday, August 31, the Met Office has warned of &#8220;changeable&#8221; conditions, impacted by Storm Erin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The forecast reads: &#8220;High pressure is likely to be the dominant feature at first bringing widely fine and dry <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/manchester-weather\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">weather<\/a> whilst a generally northerly flow leads to rather cool conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;This will be increasingly eroded from the west as frontal systems start to move in from the Atlantic through the weekend, leading to more changeable conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Whilst this is happening a deep area of low pressure is likely to develop in the North Atlantic, linked to Hurricane Erin. This likely progresses towards the UK through the early part of the week.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0_UK-issues-amber-heat-alert-as-temperatures-expected-to-exceed-35C.jpg\" alt=\"Heatwave in london\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The thundery showers come after a week of warm and sunny weather across large parts of the country(Image: Anadolu via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The forecast finishes with: &#8220;The changeable period will likely continue through the last week of August, especially in the north and west, with a small chance of widely wetter and windier weather developing.
