Although it might be a good idea to bring a waterproof along just in case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">There\u2019s so many places across Greater Manchester to choose from if you\u2019re after a relaxed <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/tourism\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">country ramble<\/a>, including the magical Healey Dell nature reserve.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1745146690_119_0_Healey-Dell-Rochdale.jpg\" alt=\"A waterfall in Healey Dell\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Walk past tumbling waterfalls (Image: Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Located just two miles from <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/rochdale\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Rochdale<\/a> town centre, this woodland walk features tumbling waterfalls, tiny stone bridges and an impressive 100ft viaduct.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Carving its way through the woods of Healey Dell is the River Spodden, which once powered the wool and cotton mills which whirred away in Rochdale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Over time the river bed has been shaped by the water, creating the Fairies Pool, a stunning rocky gorge with a waterfall cascading down. There was previously a chapel-like cavern here, known as the Fairies Chapel, which was swept away in powerful floods in the 1800s.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1745146691_34_0_Healey-Dell-Rochdale.jpg\" alt=\"One of the bridges crossing the river\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>One of the bridges crossing the river(Image: Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A trail through the trees follows the route of the river and takes you under the impressive viaduct standing at 105ft high with eight arches, each spanning 30ft.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It was built in 1867 to carry the Rochdale to Bacup railway line. The railway line operated until 1949, before being used for coal trains until the 1960s.
