Lando Norris has opened up on his fears that F1 racing could become \u201cfake\u201d or \u201cscripted\u201d when new regulations are introduced in 2026 after testing the active aero concept<\/p>\n

Lando Norris has opened up on his fears<\/a> that F1 could become \u201cfake\u201d or \u201cscripted\u201d when new regulations are introduced in 2026<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Norris, who recently tested the new active aero concept in the simulator<\/a>, wants racing to be driver-focused without any added complexity. However, next season, the current DRS system will be replaced by an active aerodynamic setup.<\/p>\n

The new regulations allow drivers to switch between two modes: a high-downforce \u2018Z-mode\u2019 for corners and a low-drag \u2018X-mode\u2019 for straights.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s different \u2013 it\u2019s good and different in different ways,\u201d Norris told Motorsport Week<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Formula 1<\/a>, in terms of the pinnacle of motorsport and speed and everything, you don\u2019t get much better than what we\u2019ve had this year and the last few years.<\/p>\n

“When we\u2019re going to go into next year, the gaps will be bigger. It doesn\u2019t mean racing is going to be worse. I think there are many things that are going to make racing better.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just don\u2019t want to go too artificial with things \u2013 I don\u2019t want things to be too fake, too scripted \u2013 I don\u2019t think that\u2019s correct. That\u2019s not motorsport and that\u2019s not what I like.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: “Some things will be better \u2013 the cars are going to be even slower and straighter in the corners and things like that.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re not going to look as spectacular in terms of performing laps. They\u2019re not going to look as quick because at the end of straights you\u2019re losing speed, you\u2019re decelerating.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not going to look as cool or as special. I think there are still things I would like more from the car. Just more battery and things like that. We could just have some more normality in it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s a new challenge for everyone. We should all look forward to the challenge of a new car and new regulations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s also what makes Formula 1 exciting at times. It\u2019s a fresh start for everyone. We look forward to it as a team. I think it\u2019s something we relish.
