King Charles III<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s former butler does not recall any issues with Queen Camilla<\/strong><\/a> within the royal family \u2014 despite what Prince Harry<\/strong><\/a> wrote in Spare<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Grant Harrold<\/strong>\u2019s upcoming book, The Royal Butler: My Remarkable Life of Royal Service, offers royal family fans insight into his seven years working for \u201ca very gentle\u201d Charles. When Harrold\u2019s employment started, Charles, 76, and Camilla, 78, were still living apart, although they spent a lot of time together.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was no police protection or anything. I remember one time turning up at [her house] at night \u2014 he asked me to take something to her,\u201d he wrote, per an excerpt published via The Telegraph<\/a> on Monday, August 18. \u201cI remember getting there and she opened the window upstairs and looked down and went, \u2018Who\u2019s there?!\u2019 I went, \u2018It\u2019s Grant!\u2019 She said, \u2018Grant, what the hell are you doing here at this time?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Harrold had to deliver something to Camilla, but she was apparently \u201ctrying to offer me tea\u201d at nearly 10 p.m.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA rocky road. Prince Harry has been candid about his ups and downs with members of the royal family, including stepmother Queen Consort Camilla. King Charles III welcomed his second son with the late Princess Diana in September 1984, two years after son Prince William was born. The former couple separated in 1992 amid speculation [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

Charles and Camilla reportedly kicked off their affair in 1986, when he was still married to Princess Diana<\/strong>. After Charles and Diana divorced in 1996, he and Camilla waited nearly a decade before tying the knot. Charles was the \u201chappiest\u201d Harrold had ever seen him on their April 2005 wedding day<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the festivities, Charles and Camilla were catching a flight to head straight to Birkhall [on the Balmoral estate],\u201d Harrold wrote. \u201cWe all went outside to wave them off and laughed as we saw William and Harry had decorated their car with \u2018Just Married.\u2019 As they drove off through the arches to cheers, the boys raced after the car.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harrold\u2019s account of Prince William<\/strong>, 43, and Harry\u2019s feelings about the nuptials is quite different from the Duke of Sussex\u2019s, it seems.<\/p>\n

Harry, 40, wrote in 2023\u2019s Spare that he had \u201ccomplex feelings\u201d<\/a> about Camilla marrying into the royal family, as did William.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2019We support you,\u2019 we said. \u2018We endorse Camilla,\u2019 we said. \u2018Just please don\u2019t marry her. Just be together, Pa.\u2019 He didn\u2019t answer. But she answered. Straight away,\u201d Harry claimed in his memoir. \u201cShortly after our private summits with her, she began to play the long game, a campaign aimed at marriage and eventually the Crown (with Pa\u2019s blessing, we presumed).\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWhen Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle stepped down from their positions as senior working royals, the duke\u2019s relationship with father King Charles III dissipated. \u201cMy family literally cut me off financially, and I [needed to be able to] afford security for us,\u201d the Duke of Sussex alleged in his bombshell CBS interview in March [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

Harrold also claimed that Harry, William, Charles and Camilla \u201cgot on so well,\u201d<\/a> which is why Harry\u2019s account of their family rift has been confusing to the former butler.<\/p>\n

When discussing Charles, specifically, Harrold referred to his former boss as \u201cvery calm\u201d and the now-king \u201cdidn\u2019t once raise his voice\u201d while they worked together.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe works hard and he doesn\u2019t suffer fools. He gets on with everyone,\u201d Harrold wrote. \u201cHe does get perceived as out of touch and he\u2019s not.\u201d<\/p>\n
