{"id":354900,"date":"2025-08-18T19:30:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T19:30:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/354900\/"},"modified":"2025-08-18T19:30:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T19:30:12","slug":"nearly-2000-pubs-axe-brewdog-beer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/354900\/","title":{"rendered":"Nearly 2,000 pubs axe BrewDog beer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Scottish brewer\u2019s famous beer, Punk IPA, was hardest hit \u2013 disappearing from 1,980 venues, exclusive pub industry data has revealed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-695649 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/iStock-1187011005-640x427.jpg\" alt=\"Pubs axe BrewDog beer\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>BrewDog beers have been scrapped by nearly 2,000 pubs across the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The venues axing the Scottish-based brewer\u2019s drinks are mostly chains owned by big pub companies, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2025\/08\/16\/brewdog-beers-axed-by-almost-2000-pubs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Telegraph<\/a> has revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, BrewDog announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrinksbusiness.com\/2025\/07\/brewdog-to-axe-10-bars-within-days\/#:~:text=The%20bars%20set%20to%20close,Shepherd&#039;s%20Bush%2C%20Shoreditch%20and%20York.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the closure of 10 bars<\/a>, including its flagship store in Aberdeen, after concluding they were not \u201ccommercially viable\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past two years, BrewDog\u2019s signature beer, Punk IPA, was hardest hit; vanishing from 1,980 pubs over the past two years \u2013 a 52.3pc drop in distribution \u2013 pub industry data revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Uncertain future<\/p>\n<p>Bars are reportedly now opting to serve beers from alternative breweries like Beavertown and Camden Town.<\/p>\n<p>BrewDog is now said to be reliant on popular pub giant JD Wetherspoon.<\/p>\n<p>An industry insider revealed: \u201cIf they ever lost the JD Wetherspoon deal, then that\u2019s Punk IPA done as a [pub trade] product.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The collapse in BrewDog\u2019s UK distribution comes after a rocky period that saw the self-proclaimed \u2018punks\u2019 of the craft beer scene hit with \u201ctoxic\u201d workplace culture allegations.<\/p>\n<p>Economic headwinds<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, the Aberdeenshire-based brewer saw a loss of \u00a359m, and, in 2022, \u00a330.5m.<\/p>\n<p>Lauren Caroll, BrewDog\u2019s chief operating officer, said: \u201cIndependent brewers across the board have felt the squeeze from the economic pressures hitting the pub trade. With costs rising and consumers watching their spend, pub groups have been narrowing their ranges, and brewery-owned pubs are putting more emphasis on their own brands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not just us \u2013 every independent brewer has been affected.
