The French Health Ministry recently reported that twelve cases of locally acquired malaria were recorded throughout the Mayotte Department in 2025. These are\u00a0the first local cases\u00a0since July 2020.<\/p>\n

Additionally,\u00a054 cases of imported malaria were recorded across the main island of\u00a0Mayotte.<\/p>\n

As of August 14, 2025, there have been\u00a0a total of 66 cases of malaria reported in Mayotte this year.<\/p>\n

Several imported cases, mainly from neighbouring countries in Africa, have been reported\u00a0in previous years.<\/p>\n

While available in Africa, malaria vaccines<\/a> are not offered in Mayotte.<\/p>\n

In addition to the this mosquito-borne disease, Mayotte has been significantly impacted by the Chikungunya virus in 2025. Both travel-related and locally acquired cases have been confirmed in all areas.<\/p>\n

Unlike malaria, Chikungunya vaccines are approved and available in 2025.<\/p>\n

These vaccines are needed in various Indian Ocean countries, such as\u00a0Mauritius, Mayotte, R\u00e9union, and Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n
