Sony will host a PS5 livestream in late September which could be a PS Showcase<\/strong><\/a> but is more likely to be a State of Play<\/strong><\/a>. That\u2019s according to Giant Bomb\u2019s<\/a> Jeff Grubb, who has a strong track record of being accurate about these things.<\/p>\n

Speaking as part of a livestream earlier today<\/a>, Grubb invited websites to report on the rumour, such is his confidence:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll point out what I\u2019ve heard, and this one I feel comfortable saying, yeah, you can go write headlines about this if you want: [Sony\u2019s] planning a State of Play, or maybe a PS Showcase, but probably a State of Play, for the end of September, or before the end of September. So we\u2019re going to get updates from Sony here pretty soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Grubb\u2019s comments came as part of a bigger conversation about live service shooter Fairgames<\/a>, following rumours of its cancellation this weekend.<\/p>\n

As part of that story, Michael Pachter \u2013 the source of the speculation<\/a> \u2013 confirmed he misspoke and doesn\u2019t actually know the status of the project.<\/p>\n

But Grubb admitted he isn\u2019t sure whether Fairgames will appear during September\u2019s proposed State of Play, and thinks it could also come too early for the likes of Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/a>, which was revealed in 2021.<\/p>\n

He speculated the previously rumoured<\/a> Metroidvania-style God of War<\/a> might appear during the event, but doesn\u2019t have any strong sources either way.<\/p>\n

We suspect a State of Play would be used to further promote Ghost of Yotei<\/a>, but on the first-party front, Sony slate is looking a little light beyond that.<\/p>\n

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet<\/a> is likely still well over a year away, and we haven\u2019t heard a peep out of Guerrilla\u2019s long-in-development online adaptation of Horizon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

To be fair, though, PlayStation\u2019s operated in this fashion all generation long: it usually only has one or two first-party titles it\u2019s actively promoting, before it moves onto whatever\u2019s next. So, we suspect a September livestream would be worth tuning into, if only to see where it\u2019s focus will be for 2026.<\/p>\n
