{"id":356322,"date":"2025-08-19T08:22:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T08:22:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/356322\/"},"modified":"2025-08-19T08:22:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T08:22:11","slug":"uk-e-bike-uptake-lowest-in-europe-report-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/356322\/","title":{"rendered":"UK e-bike uptake lowest in Europe, report states"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>New analysis has shown that the UK has the second-lowest electric bike uptake in Europe, according to new rankings, with the government urged to do more to boost progress and improve the nation\u2019s mobility and green transport access.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The analysis from bicycle retailer Paul\u2019s Cycles compared e-bike sales per 1,000 people across 30 European countries.<\/p>\n<p>At 2.1 e-bikes sold per 1,000 people (460,000 total), the UK has the second-lowest electric bike uptake in Europe compared to its population, ahead of only Belarus.<\/p>\n<p>In comparison, Norway and Denmark reported the highest amount of electric bike sales per 1,000 inhabitants (36.2 and 36.1 respectively).<\/p>\n<p>Danish governments are currently providing free e-bikes to residents in rural areas as part of an ongoing trial to improve mobility.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-41985 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/E-bike-sales-per-1000-people-2024-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"918\" height=\"560\"  \/>Paul\u2019s Cycle graph depicting e-bike sales per 1,000 residents in European countries<\/p>\n<p>In France, bike sales have tripled since financial aid was introduced in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cE-bikes aren\u2019t just about comfort\u201d, says Tom Thornley, Managing Director of Paul\u2019s Cycles.. \u201cThey open cycling up to more people, whether you\u2019re unable to ride a pedal bicycle, are commuting, new to cycling or trying to keep pace on group rides.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s time the government recognised e-bikes as a serious part of the green transport solution.
