The Hunslet Club is marking a milestone in its social housing project, Hunslet Club Community Homes, as its very first tenant celebrates ten years in her property.<\/p>\n

Launched in 2013, the initiative was created to address the shortage of quality housing for families in South Leeds. The club purchases empty or neglected properties from private owners, landlords, or the local authority, then carries out extensive renovations. Work is led by professional tradespeople, with support from young people enrolled on the club\u2019s vocational construction courses, who gain valuable hands-on experience as part of their training.<\/p>\n

The refurbished homes are made energy-efficient and environmentally sound, before being offered to families connected to the club who need improved housing or are struggling.<\/p>\n

Today, the scheme manages five properties, all of which are still occupied by their original tenants \u2013 something the club says \u201cspeaks volumes\u201d about the quality of the homes and the relationships built with residents.<\/p>\n

Sue, the first tenant, described her home as her \u201csanctuary\u201d and expressed her gratitude to the club. Staff visited her this week to mark the anniversary and thank her for being a long-standing tenant.<\/p>\n
