But government subsidies, China\u2019s rare-earth dominance and its famously nimble production processes have turned the country\u2019s EV industry into the world\u2019s largest. Nowadays Chinese EVs are well-made, chock full of great technology\u2026and cheap.<\/p>\n<p data-component=\"paragraph\" class=\"css-1l5amll e1y9q0ei0\">But there are roadblocks. At home, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.economist.com\/china\/2025\/06\/05\/now-chinas-ultra-cheap-evs-are-scaring-china\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">price war rages<\/a> and few of the country\u2019s hundred or so manufacturers turn a profit.
