A collection of British players have navigated their way through the first round of US Open qualifying.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Qualifying for a Grand Slam is always a tall task, no matter who the player is, and it is no different for the British contingent competing in Flushing Meadows<\/a> currently.<\/p>\n

Last year, British star Jan Choinski produced three fantastic performances to qualify for his first Grand Slam<\/a>. This year\u2019s group will be hoping to emulate Choinski\u2019s efforts.<\/p>\n

Below are the three British players who won their opening-round matches on day one of US Open qualifying.<\/p>\n

Two months ago, Billy Harris produced an array of spectacular tennis at the Eastbourne Open, defeating Cameron Norrie and Mattia Bellucci on his way to the quarter-final stage.<\/p>\n

He followed this up by winning his Wimbledon<\/a> first-round match against Dusan Lajovic.<\/p>\n

Harris\u2019 results have been mixed since Wimbledon. However, the world number 151 rallied from a set down against Japan\u2019s James Trotter in the first round of US Open qualifying, winning 3-6 6-1 6-2.<\/p>\n

He will face former world number 39 Mikhail Kukushkin in the second round.<\/p>\n

World number 117 Jodie Burrage has only won two singles matches since the Birmingham Classic in early June.<\/p>\n

However, the British Billie Jean King Cup star has not let this form faze her in New York, winning her opening qualifying round.<\/p>\n

After a close first set, the Brit romped to victory, winning 6-4 6-0 against Romania\u2019s Patricia Maria Tig.<\/p>\n

She will face 18th seed Arantxa Rus in the next round.<\/p>\n

Jay Clarke\u2019s hopes of qualifying for the US Open were given a boost on Monday when he beat America\u2019s Jack Satterfield 7-5 6-1.<\/p>\n

However, the world number 204 now faces a daunting task against world number 75 Arthur Cazaux.<\/p>\n

Cazaux, formerly world number 63, recently reached the final of the Kitzbuhel Open in Austria, before losing to an in-form Alexander Bublik<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dan Evans and Johannus Monday miss out<\/p>\n

Dan Evans was seeded 18th heading into US Open qualifying. However, he fell at the first hurdle, losing to former world number 31 Lloyd Harris.<\/p>\n

Harris, who is now ranked 353, defeated Evans 6-4 3-6 7-5, putting an end to Evans\u2019 Flushing Meadows hopes.<\/p>\n

Another young British star, Johannus Monday, also lost in the first round of qualifying. The 23-year-old was defeated by France\u2019s Harold Mayot, who won 7-5 6-3 on Monday.<\/p>\n

More British players are competing in the first round of US Open qualifying on Tuesday. On the men\u2019s side, Jan Choinski, Jack Pinnington Jones, George Loffhagen and Oliver Crawford are competing.<\/p>\n

On the women\u2019s side, Harriet Dart, Francesca Jones and Heather Watson are also competing on day two of US Open qualifying.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A collection of British players have navigated their way through the first round of US Open qualifying.
