{"id":357401,"date":"2025-08-19T18:18:15","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T18:18:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/357401\/"},"modified":"2025-08-19T18:18:15","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T18:18:15","slug":"nvidia-developing-more-powerful-ai-chip-for-china-report-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/357401\/","title":{"rendered":"Nvidia developing more powerful AI chip for China, report says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Nvidia booth at the China International Supply Chain Expo in Beijing on July 16, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Florence Lo | Reuters<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/NVDA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nvidia<\/a> said Tuesday that it is evaluating several products following a report that the company is working on a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/ai-effect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">artificial intelligence<\/a> chip for China that is more powerful than the currently available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/08\/15\/china-not-welcoming-nvidia-back-with-open-arms-even-if-h20-curbs-eased.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">H20<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The new product, tentatively called the B30A, is expected to be based on Nvidia&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/03\/18\/nvidia-announces-blackwell-ultra-and-vera-rubin-ai-chips-.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blackwell<\/a> chip architecture, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/china\/nvidia-working-new-ai-chip-china-that-outperforms-h20-sources-say-2025-08-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reported, citing people familiar with the company&#8217;s plans. Nvidia hopes to deliver sample units to Chinese clients for testing as soon as next month, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We evaluate a variety of products for our roadmap, so that we can be prepared to compete to the extent that governments allow,&#8221; the company told CNBC in a statement. &#8220;Everything we offer is with the full approval of the applicable authorities and designed solely for beneficial commercial use.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Tuesday praised Nvidia CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/07\/22\/nvidia-jensen-huang-trump-tim-cook-musk.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jensen Huang<\/a> and said he wouldn&#8217;t be surprised if Huang wants to sell a new chip to China.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m sure he&#8217;s pitching the president all the time,&#8221; Lutnick said in an interview with CNBC&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/squawk-on-the-street\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Squawk on the Street.&#8221;<\/a> &#8220;I&#8217;ve listened to him pitch the president, and the president listens to our great technology companies, and he&#8217;ll decide how he wants to play it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Nvidia and rival <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AMD\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Advanced Micro Devices<\/a> agreed to give the U.S. government a 15% cut of their sales in China, in exchange for permission to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/08\/13\/nvidia-amd-and-apple-big-tech-is-paying-its-way-out-of-trump-tariffs.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resume<\/a> selling chips in the region.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration halted the sale of advanced computer chips to China in April over national security concerns. Nvidia built its China-specific H20 chip after the Biden administration implemented export controls on AI chips in 2023, while AMD developed the MI308 chip for the Chinese market.<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/08\/11\/trump-nvidia-20percent-cut-h20-obsolete-chip.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> last week that he originally requested a 20% cut of Nvidia&#8217;s sales, but that Huang negotiated the number down to 15%.<\/p>\n<p>Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/08\/12\/trump-open-to-nvidia-selling-downgraded-blackwell-ai-chip-to-china.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suggested<\/a> at the time that he would be open to Nvidia selling a significantly scaled-down version of its advanced Blackwell chip in China.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s possible I&#8217;d make a deal&#8221; on a &#8220;somewhat enhanced \u2014 in a negative way \u2014 Blackwell&#8221; processor, Trump said. &#8220;In other words, take 30% to 50% off of it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CNBC&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/kristina-partsinevelos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kristina Partsinevelos<\/a> contributed to this report.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t miss these insights from CNBC PRO<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Nvidia booth at the China International Supply Chain Expo in Beijing on July 16, 2025.
