{"id":35751,"date":"2025-04-20T14:06:14","date_gmt":"2025-04-20T14:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/35751\/"},"modified":"2025-04-20T14:06:14","modified_gmt":"2025-04-20T14:06:14","slug":"safety-fears-as-man-seen-walking-on-birmingham-railway-line-moments-before-steam-engine-due","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/35751\/","title":{"rendered":"Safety fears as man seen walking on Birmingham railway line moments before steam engine due"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The man was seen wandering along the Sutton Park line in Sutton Coldfield just minutes before a steam engine was due<\/p>\n<p>13:04, 19 Apr 2025Updated 15:38, 19 Apr 2025<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">This is the moment a man was seen walking along an active <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Birmingham<\/a> railway line just minutes before a steam engine was due to pass by.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The man was seen casually walking in the middle of a set of tracks on the Sutton Park line in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/sutton-coldfield\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Sutton Coldfield<\/a> \u2013 within the park on Thursday (April 17).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Rail enthusiasts had gathered to watch a locomotive headed from the North Yorkshire Moors to the Severn Valley Railway in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/worcestershire\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Worcestershire<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But were shocked to see the man walking along the rail line with his coat over one arm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Read more: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/sutton-coldfield-nursery-council-breaking-31467650\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Huge nursery site sell-off by \u2018shambolic\u2019 council labelled a &#8216;tragedy&#8217;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Mick Lockley from Perton in Wolverhampton had made the trip to the park when he saw the man.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He said: \u201cIt happened on Thursday (April 17).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cA steam engine was due to go through Sutton Park at 5pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cI was with a couple of rail enthusiasts and we were waiting to see the steam engine with a supporting coach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIt was about 10 minutes before the steam engine was due and the man came from near Little Bracebridge all the way up to where we were near Streetly Gate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1_Sutton-Park-line-trespasser.jpg\" alt=\"A man was seen walking on the Sutton Park railway line in Sutton Coldfield just moments before a steam engine was due to come through on the track\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>A man was seen walking on the Sutton Park railway line in Sutton Coldfield just moments before a steam engine was due to come through on the track(Image: Mick Lockley )<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The 57-year-old continued: \u201cHe was an elderly bloke towards his 70s<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cI said \u2018do you think it\u2019s a good idea to walk on the railway line?\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cHe said he got lost with all the swampy areas in Sutton Park. He knew he\u2019d done something wrong.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIf you don\u2019t know Sutton Park, you\u2019re better off sticking to the footpaths.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIt\u2019s safety at the end of the day. There\u2019s freight trains go on it carrying heavy loads like coal trailers and ometimes nuclear waste containers<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIt\u2019s very dangerous thing for anyone to do.
