{"id":357654,"date":"2025-08-19T20:40:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T20:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/357654\/"},"modified":"2025-08-19T20:40:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T20:40:10","slug":"us-to-root-out-anti-americanism-in-reviewing-immigration-applications-trump-administration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/357654\/","title":{"rendered":"US to \u2018root out anti-Americanism\u2019 in reviewing immigration applications | Trump administration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/trump-administration\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump administration<\/a> said on Tuesday that it will look for \u201canti-American\u201d views, including on social media, when assessing the applications of people wanting to live in the United States.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/newsroom\/news-releases\/uscis-to-consider-anti-americanism-in-immigrant-benefit-requests\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announcement<\/a>, US Citizenship and Immigration Services, which handles requests to stay in the United States or become a citizen, said it would expand vetting of the social media postings of applicants and that \u201creviews for anti-American activity will be added to that vetting\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cAmerica\u2019s benefits should not be given to those who despise the country and promote anti-American ideologies,\u201d said agency spokesperson Matthew Tragesser. \u201cUS Citizenship and Immigration Services is committed to implementing policies and procedures that root out anti-Americanism and supporting the enforcement of rigorous screening and vetting measures to the fullest extent possible. In May, student visa interviews were temporarily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/may\/30\/trump-international-students-visas\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">halted<\/a>, and then, in June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/jun\/18\/social-media-student-visa-screening\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new social media<\/a> vetting measures were introduced for international students applying to study in the US.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Under the new measures, US diplomats <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/jun\/18\/social-media-student-visa-screening\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">are directed<\/a> to review applicants\u2019 social media profiles to look for \u201cany indications of hostility toward the citizens, culture, government, institutions, or founding principles of the United States\u201d before issuing visas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">On Monday, the State Department said it had revoked 6,000 student visas since the secretary of state, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/marco-rubio\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marco Rubio<\/a>, took office in January.
