{"id":357802,"date":"2025-08-19T21:59:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T21:59:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/357802\/"},"modified":"2025-08-19T21:59:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T21:59:14","slug":"birmingham-city-flood-pfa-league-one-team-of-the-year-but-are-surprisingly-snubbed-for-big-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/357802\/","title":{"rendered":"Birmingham City flood PFA League One Team of the Year but are surprisingly snubbed for big award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Birmingham City dominated League One last year, earning 111 points over the course of the season &#8211; that&#8217;s been reflected in the PFA Team of the Year<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0_Birmingham-City-v-Rotherham-United-Sky-Bet-League-One-St-Andrews-Knighthead-Park.jpg\" alt=\"Birmingham City's Jay Stansfield celebrates with teammate Tomoki Iwata\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Birmingham City&#8217;s Jay Stansfield celebrates with teammate Tomoki Iwata(Image: PA)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">As predicted, Birmingham City&#8217;s squad have almost flooded the League One Team of the Year, which was voted for by their peers through the Professional Footballers&#8217; Association, on the back of their record breaking campaign last season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Blues claimed 111 points last year in the third tier,<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/sport\/football\/football-news\/birmingham-city-already-strongly-fancied-31723878\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" to secure an immediate return to the Championship which never once looked to be in doubtLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> to secure an immediate return to the Championship which never once looked to be in doubt<\/a> under Chris Davies; they remained unbeaten at St Andrew&#8217;s over the course of the campaign and galloped away to lift the title, clear by 19 points of second placed Wrexham.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">As such, as many as seven players have made it into the PFA Team of the Year for League One 2024\/25; goalkeeper Ryan Allsop, defenders Ethan Laird, Alex Cochrane and Christoph Klarer, midfielders Paik Seung-ho and Tomoki Iwata and forward Jay Stansfield &#8211; the division&#8217;s joint-second top goalscorer &#8211; were all included through votes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">That seven were joined by winger Kwame Poku &#8211; who has since joined QPR after interest from Blues &#8211; Charlie Kelman, who spent last season on loan at Leyton Orient and claimed the golden boot with 23 goals before joining Charlton Athletic this summer &#8211; Richard Kone of Wycombe Wanderers and Lloyd Jones of Charlton.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Despite Blues&#8217; successes and breaking of records, the actual PFA Player of the Year award went elsewhere &#8211; to Kone, of the Chairboys, who has, like Poku, since moved to QPR in the Championship.
