Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> cut ties with the youngster at the end of last season. SWFC decided not to hand him an extension earlier this summer.<\/p>\n

Mbaya, 18, became a free agent in late June and has since been weighing up his options as a free agent. He has recently been on trial with Barnsley<\/a> and has done enough to land a deal at Oakwell.<\/p>\n

The Tykes have confirmed on their website<\/a> that he has put pen-to-paper on a contract in South Yorkshire. Forward Lewis Gould has also linked up with Conor Hourihane\u2019s side.<\/p>\n

Barnsley<\/a> drew 1-1 at home to Bolton Wanderers<\/a> last time out. Speaking afterwards, Hourihane admitted to the Barnsley Chronicle<\/a> that he is looking to bring in some more new faces before the deadline on Monday 1st September: \u201cI would like to rotate more but the depth is probably just not there at the minute. I am very pleased with the people in the building. But there is no getting away that we need a little bit of depth. We\u2019ve got two weeks so it will have to be pretty soon. We\u2019re counting down and so is every club.\u201d<\/p>\n

New home for Voldi Mbaya after Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> exit<\/p>\n

Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> signed Mbaya as a teenager. He joined SWFC at U15s level and he rose up through their academy ranks.<\/p>\n

Prior to his switch to Hillsborough, he played for grassroots outfit Hunslet Club. The Leeds-born man signed an apprentice contract in August 2023.<\/p>\n

He was a regular for the Owls at various different youth levels during his time at the club. However, he never made a first-team appearance before his departure.<\/p>\n

Mbaya will initially team up with Barnsley<\/a>\u2019s U21s and will be eager to show what he can do. The Tykes will see him as one for the future.<\/p>\n

What now for Sheffield Wednesday<\/a>?<\/p>\n

Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> have lost their first two games of the new Championship<\/a> campaign. SWFC have been beaten by Leicester City<\/a> away and Stoke City<\/a> at home.<\/p>\n

The Owls are back in action on Saturday with an away trip to the Racecourse Ground to face Wrexham<\/a>. Like Henrik Pedersen\u2019s side<\/a>, the Red Dragons have also been beaten in their first two games.<\/p>\n

Phil Parkinson\u2019s men were promoted from League One earlier this year. They went up from the third tier along with Birmingham<\/a> City and Wrexham<\/a> but have found the step up tough.<\/p>\n
