{"id":358201,"date":"2025-08-20T01:29:16","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T01:29:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/358201\/"},"modified":"2025-08-20T01:29:16","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T01:29:16","slug":"up-govt-signs-mou-with-uk-for-chevening-scholarship-for-study-at-britains-top-varsities-lucknow-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/358201\/","title":{"rendered":"UP govt signs MoU with UK for Chevening scholarship for study at Britain\u2019s top varsities | Lucknow News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United Kingdom\u2019s Foreign, Commonwealth &amp; Development Office (FCDO) for the \u201cChevening-Atal Bihari Vajpayee Uttar Pradesh State Government Scholarship Scheme\u201d under which five meritorious students from the state will pursue master\u2019s degrees at Britain\u2019s leading universities every year.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement was signed in <a rel=\"noamphtml noopener\" class=\"keywordtourl\" href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/section\/cities\/lucknow\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lucknow<\/a> by British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, in the presence of Chief Minister <a rel=\"noamphtml noopener\" class=\"keywordtourl\" href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/about\/yogi-adityanath\/\" target=\"_blank\">Yogi Adityanath<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"lazyloading\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"lazyloading-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/track_1x1.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/track_1x1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1px\" height=\"1px\" style=\"display:none;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The UP Cabinet had recently approved the proposal for the scholarship scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Adityanath said this scholarship scheme will serve as a powerful platform to transform the state\u2019s education system and prepare the youth for global leadership roles. The scheme, he emphasised, aimed to enable meritorious students to achieve excellence in education, research, and leadership at the international level.<\/p>\n<p>The programme will commence from the academic session 2025-26 and run for three years, with the possibility of renewal from the 2028-29 session.<\/p>\n<p>The CM urged the students to \u201cseize this opportunity and enhance the pride of both the state and the country\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship covers tuition, examination and research fees, living allowances, and airfare to and from the UK. The total cost per student is estimated to be \u00a338,048 to \u00a342,076 (Rs 45\u201348 lakh), with the state government contributing around \u00a319,800 (Rs 23 lakh) and the remainder funded by the FCDO.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>The British High Commissioner highlighted that under the scholarship scheme, five students will receive full scholarships to study in the UK each year for the next three years.<\/p>\n<p>This initiative reflects the strengthening ties between India and the UK, an official statement said, adding this comes in the wake of Prime Minister <a rel=\"noamphtml noopener\" class=\"keywordtourl\" href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/about\/narendra-modi\/\" target=\"_blank\">Narendra Modi<\/a>\u2019s recent visit to the UK, where he had signed the Trade Agreement and Vision 35, opening new avenues for business and education.<\/p>\n<p>On August 7, the state Cabinet had given nod to the draft proposal titled \u201cBharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee-Chevening Uttar Pradesh State Government Scholarship Scheme\u201d. The government then announced that the scholarship will provide for students\u2019 stay and study at top UK institutions like the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh, and the Landon School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).<\/p>\n<p>UP Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay then had stated the scheme will be renewed or extended thereafter.
