{"id":358479,"date":"2025-08-20T04:00:27","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T04:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/358479\/"},"modified":"2025-08-20T04:00:27","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T04:00:27","slug":"wrexham-and-birmingham-city-transfer-target-earns-enjoyable-review-from-manager-after-scoring-first-goal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/358479\/","title":{"rendered":"Wrexham and Birmingham City transfer target earns &#8216;enjoyable&#8217; review from manager after scoring first goal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Wrexham might regret missing out on one player following his excellent performance over the weekend.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since battling it out in League One for promotion, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrexhaminsider.com\/club\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wrexham<\/a> and Birmingham City have been linked with a number of the same players this summer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrexhaminsider.com\/transfer-news\/wrexham-officially-miss-out-on-premier-league-midfielder-as-birmingham-city-deal-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tommy Doyle chose Birmingham<\/a> after the Red Dragons showed an interest in the Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrexhaminsider.com\/news\/local-media-say-wrexham-target-hijacked-by-birmingham-city-struggled-during-championship-return\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Doyle \u2018struggled\u2019<\/a> on his debut league outing for the Midlands outfit, while one player both teams missed out on was in superb form during gameweek two.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-1594873554-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Co-owner of Wrexham Football Club Ryan Reynolds\" class=\"wp-image-40013\" \/>Photo by Malcolm Couzens\/Getty ImagesWrexham and Birmingham City transfer target impresses for Norwich City<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrexhaminsider.com\/transfer-news\/wrexham-aiming-to-beat-birmingham-city-to-signing-of-classy-defender-whos-available-for-free-this-summer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wrexham and Birmingham wanted to sign Harry Darling<\/a> back in May, ahead of his contract with Swansea City expiring.<\/p>\n<p>However, the centre-back instead opted to snub both clubs, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrexhaminsider.com\/news\/harry-darling-explains-why-he-snubbed-wrexham-and-joined-norwich-city-he-didnt-need-convincing-too-much\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Darling moving to Norwich City<\/a> instead.<\/p>\n<p>Wrexham lost to West Brom in gameweek two, while Norwich were in action against Portsmouth.<\/p>\n<p>They secured a 2-1 victory over Pompey, with Darling scoring the opening goal and earning the pre-assist for their second of the day.<\/p>\n<p>Following the clash, the former Wrexham target has received high praise from Liam Manning for his goal and the role he played in Josh Sargent\u2019s effort.<\/p>\n<p>As per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinkun.com\/sport\/interviews\/25394424.norwich-city-manning-darling-set-piece-threat-pompey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pink Un<\/a>, he said: \u201cAs is often the case with Harry, I think he was messing around at the end of training in the week. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe watched them against Oxford, to be fair, and thought it was an area that we could cause problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe launched one (throw) the other day and we thought, \u2018Yeah, we\u2019ll set up and use it\u2019. Credit to the lads because there is still a lot else that goes into set pieces that not everybody will see, the blocks and the movement and connecting those pieces. It was a really, really enjoyable goal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know how important set pieces are. Credit to Nick (Stanley), credit to the lads for taking it on board. I was delighted for Harry to get off the mark.
