{"id":358788,"date":"2025-08-20T06:54:13","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T06:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/358788\/"},"modified":"2025-08-20T06:54:13","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T06:54:13","slug":"late-queen-refused-to-open-airport-terminal-after-relative-stopped-with-guns-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/358788\/","title":{"rendered":"Late Queen \u2018refused to open airport terminal\u2019 after relative stopped with guns"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The late Queen refused to open an airport terminal after a relative on his way to see her at Balmoral was stopped from boarding a plane with his guns, he has claimed.<\/p>\n<p>Lord Ivar Mountbatten, a first cousin once removed of Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh, revealed he was prevented from taking his shotguns on a flight from Bristol to Aberdeen.<\/p>\n<p>He told Gyles Brandreth\u2019s Rosebud podcast how a \u201csweet check-in lady\u201d told him the hold was accessible from the cabin so they would not be secure, despite him telling a manager: \u201cThe Queen\u2019s sending me a car and she\u2019s expecting me for tea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the end, his guns were left in the police armory at the airport and Lord Ivar took the flight to Scotland to join the Queen for the shooting weekend in the Highlands.<\/p>\n<p>Later that day at Balmoral, when he recounted the tale to the Queen, it led to her \u201cgetting rather irritated\u201d and dispatching her equerry to arrange transportation of the guns, Lord Ivar said.<\/p>\n<p>The aristocrat, who is also Elizabeth II\u2019s distant cousin, told Brandreth: \u201cShe said\u2026\u2019I would like Lord Ivar\u2019s guns to be up here tomorrow morning. Please see to it\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhereupon she turns back to me and she looks at me over her glasses with a glint in her eye and she says \u2018They want me to open their new terminal\u2019.
