Credit Chris McCluskie<\/p>\nThe 78th Edinburgh International Film Festival will draw to a close on Wednesday evening with a world premiere of the autobiographical film about author Irvine Welsh who is in town to grace the red carpet.<\/p>\n
The film is made by filmmaker Paul Sng and is billed as a \u201cthrilling and revealing exploration\u201d of the Trainspotting author.<\/p>\n
Irvine Welsh has had a great deal of success in his life with six million books sold worldwide and several film adaptations. He is now taking a new journey exploring the boundaries of consciousness through a hallucinogenic trip. As he stands at the crossroads the question is what comes next?<\/p>\n
The film includes archive film clips and readings from Welsh\u2019s novels by Liam Neeson, Maxine Peake, and Nick Cave.<\/p>\n
Filmmaker Paul Sng, said:\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m completely delighted that Reality Is Not Enough has been chosen to close this year\u2019s Edinburgh International Film Festival. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I read Trainspotting as a teenager in London back in the nineties, I had no idea I would one day live in the city where the book is set, let alone make a film with its author, Irvine Welsh. Having our world premiere in our home city is a huge honour and we\u2019re looking forward immensely to sharing the film with the EIFF audience.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Reality Is Not Enough\u00a0was co-financed and produced by Edinburgh-based production company LS Films, with the support of Screen Scotland, and with Sarah Drummond serving as Executive Producer. <\/p>\n
Sarah Drummond, Executive Producer and Managing Director at LS Films,\u00a0said:\u00a0\u201cI grew up in North Edinburgh during the era that shaped so much of Irvine\u2019s writing, so helping bring this intimate portrait of the man behind the books to the screen has been something truly special. Reality Is Not Enough is raw and unexpectedly tender\u2014and it\u2019s been a privilege to make it here, in the city that connects us both.\u201d<\/p>\n

The film is due for UK release in cinemas on 26 September 2025.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
