{"id":358975,"date":"2025-08-20T08:33:24","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T08:33:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/358975\/"},"modified":"2025-08-20T08:33:24","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T08:33:24","slug":"liverpool-literary-festival-returns-for-10th-year-with-mark-kermode-headlining","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/358975\/","title":{"rendered":"Liverpool Literary Festival returns for 10th year with Mark Kermode headlining"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\tThe University of Liverpool\u2019s Liverpool Literary Festival is back to celebrate a major milestone \u2013 its 10th anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>Taking place from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 October 2025, the festival brings together bestselling authors, sharp minds, and passionate readers for a weekend of inspiring conversation, readings, and a shared love of literature.<\/p>\n<p>Headlining the 2025 programme is Mark Kermode \u2013 renowned writer, film critic, and musician \u2013 who will appear in conversation with collaborator Jenny Nelson. The pair will discuss their forthcoming book, Surround Sound: The Stories of Movie Music.<\/p>\n<p>Other highlights include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Emma Jane Unsworth, BAFTA-nominated screenwriter, bestselling novelist, and University of Liverpool alumna, who will open the festival weekend.<\/li>\n<li>Award-winning Young Adult author Juno Dawson, who presents Human Rites, the long-awaited final book in her #1 bestselling fantasy series Her Majesty\u2019s Royal Coven.<\/li>\n<li>Dr Nussaibah Younis, shortlisted for the 2025 Women\u2019s Prize for Fiction, who will discuss her powerful novel Fundamentally.<\/li>\n<li>Chris Shepherd, Liverpool-based artist, writer, and filmmaker, who will speak about his debut graphic novel Anfield Road \u2013 a coming-of-age story set in 1980s Liverpool.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Festival director Professor Greg Lynall, head of English at the University of Liverpool, says: \u201cSince our inaugural festival in 2016, we\u2019ve created an enduring cultural highlight in the University calendar. Over the last decade, we\u2019ve welcomed thousands of guests who\u2019ve had the chance to explore and deepen their love of literature.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year\u2019s programme continues our tradition of bringing together storytellers who offer rich insights into the world around us. The festival promises to be one of our most exciting yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Curated by the University\u2019s Department of English, the festival has previously welcomed a host of literary greats, including former Chancellor, Colm T\u00f3ib\u00edn (Brooklyn), Ali Smith, Frank Cottrell-Boyce, Lemn Sissay, Philip Pullman, Sally Rooney, Alan Hollinghurst, and alumna Professor Dame Carol Ann Duffy.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Greg Lynall adds: \u201cIn the Department of English we explore the power of words in the world and we\u2019re proud to programme the festival.
