{"id":359167,"date":"2025-08-20T10:17:15","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T10:17:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/359167\/"},"modified":"2025-08-20T10:17:15","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T10:17:15","slug":"snp-msps-bid-to-drop-holyrood-oath-of-allegiance-to-king-charles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/359167\/","title":{"rendered":"SNP MSPs bid to drop Holyrood oath of allegiance to King Charles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The motion, submitted by Kevin Stewart, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/25059069.news-interviews-updates-snp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SNP<\/a> MSP for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/local-news\/aberdeen-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aberdeen<\/a> Central, states that MSPs should &#8220;pledge allegiance to the people of Scotland and not an unelected monarch&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Stewart filed the motion after the government and opposition in Grenada <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/25385265.grenada-government-drops-oath-allegiance-king-charles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">joined forces to drop the oath of allegiance<\/a>, amid growing calls to remove the monarch as the Caribbean island&#8217;s head of state.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>King Charles visited Holyrood in September 2024, where he met with the leaders of Scotland&#8217;s political parties (Image: Jane Barlow\/PA Wire) The Grenadian government said earlier this month\u00a0that the parliament had agreed bills to amend the country&#8217;s constitution in &#8220;a commendable display of national unity&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The change will remove the words &#8220;His Majesty King Charles the Third, His Heirs and Successors&#8221;
