The group of fourteen apartments are located in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/flats-plan-uks-saddest-shopping-9143147\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">converted empty shops<\/a> in the old St Catherine\u2019s Place shopping centre between East Street and Dalby Avenue in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bedminster\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bedminster<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Prices in the new development, known as Catherine\u2019s Yard, start at \u00a3190,000 for a one-bed flat, according to a Rightmove listing. The listing, from Ocean estate agents, says the apartments feature open-plan layouts with plenty of natural light, along with \u201cgenerously sized bedrooms enhanced by exceptional ceiling heights\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The apartments will be ready for occupation in autumn this year, an Ocean spokesperson said. Advertising on the Catherine\u2019s Yard website leans heavily on some of the area\u2019s fancier amenities. It touts the development\u2019s location on the doorstep of \u201cthriving East Street\u201d, and its proximity to upmarket cafes such as Sweven Coffee and Bristol Loaf along with premium bars and restaurants such as Cor and KASK Wine Bar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Developers Firmstone also has planning permission to build a total of 180 new flats in separate buildings on land around the former shopping precinct, where the last shop closed in June 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">However, there has been no progress on construction of that development, with plans thought to be on hold. It is understood the vast majority of construction on the first fourteen flats is now complete. More flats, on what used to be the western side of the shopping centre, will be built at a later date.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">St Catherine\u2019s Place was formerly home to an independent florist and caf\u00e9, along with outlets such as Shoezone and The Works, but it <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/gallery\/inside-south-bristol-shopping-centre-8213690\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">closed for good in 2023<\/a> after years of decline. In 2023, a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/work-save-east-street-gentrification-8793052\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">government task force<\/a> said work was needed to make sure new developments taking advantage of the neighbourhood\u2019s vibrant reputation, as well as its convenient location near the centre and Wapping Wharf, did not leave existing residents behind.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Developers have recently also submitted plans to turn the building which used to house The Assembly, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/whats-on\/huge-south-bristol-pub-could-10428936\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">one of South Bristol\u2019s largest pubs<\/a>, into a shared house for up to 16 people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Catherine\u2019s Yard is part of the controversial Bedminster Green redevelopment project, which comprises five large proposed developments around Dalby Avenue and Malago Road, south of East Street. In December 2024, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/victory-campaigners-council-terminates-development-9797402\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bristol City Council terminated an agreement<\/a> with developer Dandara to develop some of the land earmarked for the project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Council leader Tony Dyer said BCC were going to &#8216;explore alternative delivery options for the land&#8217; after uproar from residents about the potential amount of green space which would be lost.
