Many fear the deteriorating situation with Russians means we are on the brink of the first global war in 80 years, with several countries preparing its people for if the worst was to happen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The UK <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/uks-nuclear-bunkers-mapped-britain-34154320\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"has a legion of nuclear bunkersLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">has a legion of nuclear bunkers<\/a>, most left over from the dark days of the Cold War, buried deep underground around the country, which would be capable of protecting at least some people. The Federal Agency for Real Estate (BImA) and the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance in Germany, reports none of the 579 bunkers in the country are ready for use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">German bunker expert Jorg Diester told <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stern.de\/politik\/deutschland\/keine-bunker-in-deutschland--so-sicher-sind-wir-im-ernstfall-35623242.html\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Die SternLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Die Stern<\/a> newspaper: \u201cIt&#8217;s a very, very difficult situation we have here. The perception in the areas of military and civil defense was we no longer faced a threat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Then the Bundeswehr (German <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/armed-forces\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">armed forces<\/a> ) was largely disarmed, and exactly the same thing happened in the area of civil defense.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThis did not mean the existing shelters were closed, but rather they entered a so-called declassification process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The only people in Germany who would be safe are war preppers who have their own bunkers standing ready in gardens and allotments which are filled with supplies for if the worst was to happen. In the UK Britain has a huge network of nuclear bunkers, potentially ready in case <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/vladimir-putin\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">tyrant Vladimir Putin <\/a>decides to take the nuclear option.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Research by <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.subbrit.org.uk\/categories\/nuclear-bunkers\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Subterranea Britannica <\/a>shows there are 276 littered throughout the nation, capable of keeping at least some of the population safe from the worst of the radioactive fallout &#8211; although some are out of use. In heavily populated areas, such as London, there are dozens of bunkers, while others- such as the Isle of Wight and Isle of Man, have just one option.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It comes as <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/royal-air-force\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">RAF <\/a>fighter jets rushed to defend Nato airspace from <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/vladimir-putin\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Vladimir Putin&#8217;s <\/a>warplanes twice in less than 48 hours.
