5 will not be sold off by Paramount following the takeover by David Ellison\u2019s Skydance, according to content chief Ben Frow.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Frow was asked about the potential for a sale during the 5 Spotlight session at the Edinburgh TV Festival and said he had received endorsement from the new leadership team of 5\u2019s importance to the company.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a conversation with the new boss who said he was very keen on Channel 5 and very impressed with what we do and thinks we can do a lot more for the business,\u201d Frow said. \u201cHe speaks my kind of language. \u00a0

\u201cI\u2019ve always had my eye on my responsibility and what I\u2019m supposed to deliver. I also think we\u2019re incredibly creative and if you go back to very original Paramount [the Redstones\u2019 motto] was \u2018content is king\u2019 and content is still king and we\u2019re really good at doing content.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Paramount\u2019s shares rose 36% when chief exec Ellison outlined the US studio\u2019s content plans<\/a> alongside streaming chief Cindy Holland last week.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

While most of the focus has been on Paramount+ and the US operations<\/a> \u2013 Paramount closed a high-profile deal<\/a> with Stranger Things creators the Duffer brothers yesterday \u2013 Ellison has talked about the importance of Paramount\u2019s global assets, while newly installed president Jeff Shell has previously indicated that linear networks are still part of the plans<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Though, cost savings are being sought by the top team, Frow dismissed talk about 5\u2019s financial contribution to the overall business, noting he \u201ccan\u2019t read a budget sheet\u201d and his focus is on commissioning programming which draws eyeballs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very clear about my job – my job\u2019s to get the audience,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t advertise it, I don\u2019t commercialise it, I\u2019m not in charge of whatever it is that people do, that\u2019s their job.
