Leeds United may have defeated Everton 1-0 at Elland Road but the game was not without controversy thanks to the late penalty call.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lukas Nmecha dispatched it coolly on debut to hand Leeds United<\/a> all three points during the first Monday Night Football of the season. <\/p>\n

In the eyes of many, the Whites were fortunate to win the spot kick. Anton Stach\u2019s powerful drive was adjudged to have been handled by James Tarkowski when attempting to block the shot.<\/p>\n

It is for to say it has divided opinion. However, the decision was\u00a0backed by Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville<\/a>\u00a0in their post-match reaction. It was a huge call from Chris Kavanagh and he was told it was wrong according to FA laws<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alan Shearer thought the penalty decision was a shambles<\/a>, and Leeds may have got away with one. It split the Soccer Special panel on Sky Sports News on Tuesday evening, too.<\/p>\n

Two of the five guests believed it was a penalty, but three did not. Among the two who disagreed were Kris Boyd and Clinton Morrison. It\u2019s not the first time, either.<\/p>\n

The two spoke on Sky Sports News [26 April, 12:35pm]. Boyd said: \u201cIt was only a couple of weeks ago people were saying they\u2019d blown it. Clinton was singing Leeds are falling apart again\u201d.<\/p>\n

Morrison was quick to defend himself, though, as he replied: \u201cNo, I said Leeds and Burnley will go up. Don\u2019t let him wind you up, Leeds fans.\u201d<\/p>\n

This time around, the two could not agree. Boyd said: \u201cDoes he make a dipping motion towards the ball?\u201d<\/p>\n

Morrison replied: \u201cYes, but his arms are still beside him as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boyd interrupted abruptly: \u201cAnswer my question: does he make a dipping motion towards the ball?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, he makes a dipping motion towards the ball\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDoes it hit his arm? Does it hit his arm?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me speak now because you\u2019ve spoke. What do you want him to do? What do you want him to do in that situation as a defender?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLet it go through and let your goalkeeper save it!\u201d<\/p>\n

Jobi McAnuff added: \u201cYou\u2019ve got to stand up straight. I think, if you\u2019re a defender, and you stand up straight and it hits your arm and your arm is in and you\u2019ve made no attempt to move your body towards the ball, I\u2019d say maybe fair enough.<\/p>\n

Tommy Smith said: \u201cFor a defender, that\u2019s not your natural instinct.\u201d<\/p>\n

McAnuff replied: \u201cIt\u2019s going to go past your arm. How many situations have you been in where you\u2019ve got to just pull your arm away when it\u2019s coming towards you?<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s come in towards the ball, it\u2019s hit his arm, like Boydy says, it\u2019s a handball.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking post-match immediately after, Tarkowski said: \u201c[It\u2019s] not a penalty. As soon as the ref blew, I was pretty confident it was going to get overturned.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy first question to him was, \u2018If my arm was by my side, which it was, is it a penalty?\u2019 To which he said, \u2018No\u2019. And then I\u2019ve since read that I leaned into the ball, but there\u2019s nothing unnatural about my arm being by my side.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, the ball\u2019s allowed to hit your arm. It\u2019s just not allowed to be away from your body unnaturally, which it wasn\u2019t. So I can\u2019t really understand it, really. The linesman gave it, apparently, but he\u2019s 45 yards away. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I don\u2019t understand how he can see what I\u2019ve done with my arm from that angle. So a bizarre, bizarre moment. And, yeah, it cost us the point in the end.\u201d<\/p>\n
