Tiger Woods has been named the chairman of a newly-formed PGA Tour committee.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The golf legend joins six fellow players in landing a role as part of the project, which was unveiled on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

PGA Tour<\/a> CEO Brian Rolapp launched the Future Competition Committee during a press conference on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made at East Lake Golf Club ahead of this weekend’s Tour Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This year’s FedEx Cup winner will be crowned in Atlanta, Georgia with the top 30 players in the rankings all in action from Thursday.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the opening round, the PGA Tour has made a commitment to ‘defining the optimal competitive model’ of the season.<\/p>\n

As a result, Woods will serve as chairman on their new nine-member committee.<\/p>\n

The group is set to review the current competitive model as well as shaping the future of the PGA Tour.<\/p>\n

Rolapp has tasked the committee with overseeing ‘significant change’ to events in the future with three principals of parity, scarcity and simplicity.<\/p>\n

A statement also expressed that the move is seeking to strengthen the meritocratic structure of the PGA Tour.<\/p>\n

It will also strive to increase fan engagement as well as form a better connection between the regular and post-season.<\/p>\n

Rolapp explained: “The sports business is not that complicated.<\/p>\n

Who is on the PGA Tour’s new committee?<\/p>\n

Woods<\/a> is one of six PGA Tour players to join the newly-launched committee.<\/p>\n

He joins Patrick Cantlay, Adam Scott and Camilo Villegas in combining their roles as player directors for the PGA Tour’s Policy and Enterprises boards.<\/p>\n

Fellow professionals Maverick McNealy and Keith Mitchell will also be on the committee.<\/p>\n

The pair currently serve as co-chairmen for the Player Advisory Council.<\/p>\n

Joe Gorder, chairman of the Policy and Enterprises board, completes the line-up alongside Fenway Sports Group’s John Henry and Theo Epstein.<\/p>\n

Henry founded FSG in 2001, with the group owning the Boston Red Sox, Liverpool, Pittsburgh Penguins and a NASCAR team RFK Racing.<\/p>\n

FSG have also invested in Woods’ TGL league, which he formed alongside Rory McIlroy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

When did Woods last play?<\/p>\n

The 15-time major winner’s career change comes after more than a year away from the course.<\/p>\n

Woods has not played competitively since last year’s Open Championship in July 2024.<\/p>\n

The 49-year-old has continued to be plagued by injuries<\/a> in recent years.<\/p>\n

As well as his major haul, Woods is also tied for the most PGA Tour wins alongside Sam Snead with 82.<\/p>\n
