The August bank holiday<\/a><\/strong> is always a busy and hectic time in London<\/a><\/strong>, as the city hosts some of its biggest events \u2013 from the world-famous Notting Hill Carnival<\/a><\/strong> to music festivals<\/a><\/strong> like All Points East<\/a><\/strong> and RALLY.<\/a> <\/strong>With hundreds of thousands set to flock to parties and parades, public transport faces its annual test. This year, travel disruption is relatively light, but there are still key closures and changes all Londoners and visitors should note for August 22-25.<\/strong><\/p>\n Major disruptions: Notting Hill Carnival <\/p>\n West London\u2019s streets will be full and thriving for Notting Hill Carnival<\/strong>, drawing enormous crowds and putting intense pressure on nearby stations. Several Underground and Overground stations around Notting Hill will operate differently on Sunday and Monday:<\/strong><\/p>\n Ladbroke Grove<\/strong> <\/p>\n Closed all day.<\/p>\n Latimer Road<\/strong> <\/p>\n May close temporarily for crowd control and will fully shut at 11:30pm.<\/p>\n Notting Hill Gate<\/strong> <\/p>\n Exit only from 11am to 6pm; District and Circle line trains will not stop here.<\/p>\n Westbourne Park<\/strong> <\/p>\n Exit only from 11am.<\/p>\n Holland Park<\/strong> <\/p>\n Exit only from 11am-3pm, then closes at 3pm.<\/p>\n Royal Oak<\/strong> <\/p>\n Exit only from 11am-6pm, then closes at 6pm.<\/p>\n Kensal Green<\/strong> <\/p>\n Expect long queues in the afternoon and evening.<\/p>\n Kensal Rise<\/strong> <\/p>\n Chamberlayne Road entrance closes at 6pm; a queuing system will be in place at Station Terrace afterward.<\/p>\n Top travel tip: The Central Line heading toward Notting Hill will be particularly busy during Carnival days. TfL recommends using the Tube or Elizabeth line to Paddington and then walking, or from east London, taking the Weaver line to Liverpool Street and switching to the Elizabeth line.<\/strong><\/p>\n Overground <\/p>\n While most London Underground lines are scheduled to run normally, there are a few disruptions on Overground services and other rail lines:<\/p>\n Windrush line<\/strong> <\/p>\n No trains between Sydenham and West Croydon before 8am on Sunday.<\/p>\n Mildmay line<\/strong> <\/p>\n Late-evening services affected on Friday; several trains won\u2019t run on Bank Holiday Monday, notably early mornings and throughout the day on routes between Willesden Junction, Clapham Junction, Stratford, and Richmond.<\/p>\n Lioness line<\/strong> <\/p>\n Reduced service Saturday to Monday. Trains that typically run to Euston will terminate instead at Kilburn High Road, and some departures from Euston will start at Kilburn High Road.<\/p>\n Suffragette line<\/strong> <\/p>\n The 11:03pm service from Barking Riverside to Gospel Oak on Friday will terminate early at Upper Holloway.<\/p>\n Travelling during the Bank Holiday <\/p>\n Despite these disruptions, the bank holiday travel landscape is smoother than in many previous years. However, the closure and restricted access at critical Carnival stations mean you should:<\/p>\n Plan in advance.
