Apple released\u00a0iOS 18.6.2<\/a>\u00a0on Aug. 20 to patch a\u00a0zero-day<\/a>\u00a0vulnerability that it says “may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals.” If you’re an\u00a0iPhone<\/a>\u00a0user, download this update as soon as possible — preferably right now.\u00a0<\/p>\n

You can download iOS 18.6.2 by going to Settings<\/strong>, then tapping General<\/strong>. Next, select Software Update<\/strong>, then tap Update Now<\/strong> and follow the prompts on your screen.<\/p>\n

According to Apple, the issue was found in\u00a0Image I\/O<\/a>, a framework that lets applications read and write most image formats. “Processing a malicious image file may result in memory corruption,”\u00a0Apple<\/a>\u00a0wrote online.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The important update, which fixes a critical security flaw, comes a few weeks before\u00a0iOS 26<\/a>‘s expected release.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While you may not be the target of this attack, it’s still important to update your device to protect it and its data.\u00a0<\/p>\n
