Doctor Who fans may be able to find some hope from the words of the BBC\u2019s new Chief Content Officer, who has said that the show \u201cis going nowhere.\u201d <\/p>\n

The future of the long-running BBC series has been a source of anxiety for fans since the finale of the last season which saw Ncuti Gatwa end his short <\/a>stint as the Time Lord as they regenerated into Rose Tyler <\/a>(Billie Piper), the Doctor\u2019s former companion.<\/p>\n

Even before the season ended, updates on the series\u2019 future have been rare and vague \u2013 when anyone said anything at all, that is.<\/p>\n

However, in front of an audience at the Edinburgh TV Festival Kate Phillips, the BBC\u2019s new chief content officer, has given the most definitive update yet. \u201cRest assured,\u00a0Doctor Who is going nowhere,\u201d she said as reported by Deadline<\/a>. Commenting on the partnership with Disney+ on the latest season Phillips said it had been \u201cgreat\u201d and that it would continue with the spin-off, The War Between The Land And The Sea.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cBut going forward,\u201d she continued, \u201cwith or without Disney,\u00a0Doctor Who\u00a0will still be on the BBC \u2026 The Tardis is going nowhere.\u201d Lindsay Salt, the BBC\u2019s Director of Drama also said the broadcaster was \u201ccommitted to keeping the series alive. <\/p>\n

According to figures from Barb<\/a>, the UK\u2019s official ratings body, season 15, Gatwa\u2019s second outing as The Doctor, averaged 3.2 million viewers over eight episodes. Gatwa\u2019s first spin around the galaxy averaged half a million more. Season 13, fronted by Jodie Whittaker, averaged 4.9 million over the season. <\/p>\n

In April<\/a>, showrunner Russell T Davies was only able to offer his own hope that the show would return. \u201cThere\u2019s no decision until after season two,\u201d he said. And in June<\/a> he wasn\u2019t able to offer much more writing in the\u00a0Doctor Who Magazine<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cWe don\u2019t know what\u2019s happening yet.\u201d He added, \u201cHopefully, we\u2019ll have news soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

In February, the BBC\u00a0hit back at reports<\/a>\u00a0that the adored show had been axed due to \u201cabysmal ratings\u201d and poor response to its so-called \u201cwoke\u201d plots.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Doctor Who\u00a0is streaming now on\u00a0BBC iPlayer<\/a>\u00a0and Disney+ internationally.<\/p>\n
