His choice of primary residence bucked royal traditions, as Charles and his wife, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/duchess-camilla\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Queen Camilla<\/strong><\/a>, made Clarence House their home rather than live full time at Buckingham Palace.<\/p>\n<p>The king\u2019s two sons \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/prince-william\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Prince William<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/prince-harry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Prince Harry<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 made their own eyebrow-raising decisions about their family\u2019s official homes in the past several years. As part of his decision to step down from his royal duties, Harry and his wife, <strong>Meghan Markle<\/strong>, moved their family out of the U.K. entirely in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>William and his wife, <strong>Princess Kate Middleton<\/strong>, announced plans in August 2025 to leave their own residence at Adelaide Cottage later in the year.<\/p>\n<p>Keep scrolling for a deep dive into where several members of the royal family reside:\n<\/p>\n<p>King Charles III and Queen Camilla<\/p>\n<p>The monarchs\u2019 real estate portfolio includes dozens of historic properties, including Buckingham Palace. King Charles was actually born inside the palace in November 1948, after the royal family converted a guest room into a makeshift operating room.<\/p>\n<p>Originally built in 1703, Buckingham Palace functions as the administration headquarters for the entire royal family. The property is built on a 830,000-square-foot lot and houses 775 rooms, including 52 royal guest rooms as well as 19 state rooms.<\/p>\n<p>Charles and Camilla\u2019s current residence is Clarence House, located adjacent to St. James Palace on the ceremonial roadway known as The Mall in London. Clarence House was originally built in the 1820s, with Charles living there since the death of his grandmother, <strong>The Queen Mother<\/strong>, in 2003. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hellomagazine.com\/homes\/738288\/king-charles-wont-move-into-buckingham-palace-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hello Magazine<\/a>, the palace\u2019s annual Sovereign Grant report specified that Charles and Camilla plan to continue living at Clarence House until at least 2027.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large credit-added wp-image-4076900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Breaking-Down-the-Royal-Family-Properties-Who-Lives-Where-Clarence-House-King-Charles-622528398.jpg\" alt=\"Breaking Down the Royal Family Properties Who Lives Where Clarence House King Charles 622528398\" width=\"1000\" height=\"665\"  \/>TonyBaggett\/ Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Another of the notable properties owned by the monarch is Windsor Castle, which nearly burned down in a November 1992 fire. <strong>Queen Victoria<\/strong>\u2018s Private Chapel was among the 115 rooms destroyed before firefighters finally put out the blaze after 15 hours.<\/p>\n<p>The king and queen have numerous vacation properties, including Dumfries House in Ayrshire, Scotland, Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. A new property was added to King Charles\u2019 portfolio in May 2025 when <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/03\/10\/royal-family\/king-charles-buys-3-8m-property-next-to-queen-camillas-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he purchased<\/a> The Old Mill in Wiltshire, which neighbors Camilla\u2019s family home, Ray Mill House.<\/p>\n<p>Prince William and Kate Middleton<\/p>\n<p>The Prince and Princess of Wales\u2019s official residence is \u200b\u200bApartment 1A at Kensington Palace, which has been owned by the royal family since the 17th century. William and Kate technically share the 830,000-square-foot palace with several other royals, including Queen Elizabeth II\u2019s first cousin <strong>Prince Richard<\/strong>, Duke of Gloucester, and his wife, <strong>Birgitte<\/strong>, plus William\u2019s cousin <strong>Princess Eugenie<\/strong> and her husband, <strong>Jack Brooksbank<\/strong>, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Kensington Palace \u2014 which was the birthplace of Queen Victoria \u2014 is appropriately lavish with 52 royal bedrooms, 78 bathrooms, multiple stately gardens and 188 staff bedrooms. The mission raised eyebrows in January 2024 when both Charles and Princess Kate Middleton faced health challenges. Prince William canceled several appearances at [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe decision to move into this new home is a significant one that signals independence, though it is not entirely surprising,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/what-william-and-kate-middleons-move-means-for-familys-future-excl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">insider told Us<\/a> in August 2025.<\/p>\n<p>William and Kate\u2019s other residences include Anmer Hall in Norfolk and the Tam-Na-Ghar estate at Balmoral Castle.<\/p>\n<p>Prince Harry and Meghan Markle<\/p>\n<p>During a brief period where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex lived in the U.K., they made their home at Frogmore Cottage. Coincidentally, Frogmore is located in Windsor Great Park, which is the same area where William and Kate plan to move in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Harry and Meghan left the U.K. with their children in 2020 and initially settled in Canada at the mansion Mille Fleurs, located within Vancouver Island\u2019s ritzy North Saanich community. Harry and Meghan\u2019s friend <strong>Tyler Perry<\/strong> offered for them to stay at his Beverly Hills home until they could find their own place.<\/p>\n<p>The Sussexes eventually settled on a $14.65 million, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/prince-harry-meghan-markles-14-7-million-montecito-home-details\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mediterranean-style estate<\/a> in Montecito, California, in July 2020. The 18,671-square-foot mansion includes nine bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a teahouse and a pool.<\/p>\n<p>The couple followed up their California move by purchasing a vacation home on the Iberian coast of Portugal for $8.4 million in 2024, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themirror.com\/entertainment\/meghan-markle-prince-harry-portugal-760768\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Mirror<\/a>. Their getaway estate is close to Harry\u2019s cousin Princess Eugenie\u2019s own property at the exclusive CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club.<\/p>\n<p>Princess Anne<\/p>\n<p>King Charles\u2019 younger sister, Princess Anne, lives at Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire, England, located between the quaint villages of Minchinhampton and Avening. Gatcombe Park was constructed in the 1770s, but underwent a substantial restructuring when it was owned by economist <strong>David Ricardo<\/strong> in the 1820s.<\/p>\n<p>Queen Elizabeth II purchased the property for Princess Anne and her then-husband, <strong>Mark Phillips<\/strong>, in 1976. (Anne and Mark divorced in 1992.) This is not something that comes free, this has got to pay its way, otherwise I can\u2019t stay here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prince Andrew<\/p>\n<p>The Duke of York and his family moved into Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park in Berkshire in 2004 following the death of the previous occupant, Andrew\u2019s grandmother, The Queen Mother.
