In a chilling new interview Brit computer scientist Geoffrey Hinton said he fears <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailystar.co.uk\/news\/weird-news\/terrifying-ai-images-bring-life-35105782\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">super-intelligent psycho scumbag chatbots<\/a> will realise they have no \u2018use\u2019 for mankind in their society.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailystar.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/people-soon-ai-friends-help-35745803\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Artificial intelligence<\/a> &#8211; which will be far smarter than humans &#8211; will take control of the planet. It will create mass unemployment wiping out folks\u2019 jobs en masse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">People will be cast off into a redundant universe with their purpose-free lives entirely controlled by their \u2018bot masters. being silicon &#8211; a diet of humans \u2018wouldn\u2019t do it much good\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But he begged the world to develop safeguards to stop the tech turning deadly if it fell into the wrong hands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Hinton, a cognitive scientist and psychologist whose pioneering work on artificial neural networks paved the way for thinking \u2018bots, worked for Google for 10 years before quitting so he could speak out about the dangers of AI.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0_High-Tech-Advanced-AI-Robot-Army-Marching-Slowly.jpg\" alt=\"He begged the world to develop safeguards\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>He begged the world to develop safeguards(Image: Getty Images\/iStockphoto)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Last year he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But he told feature-length documentary Making God about the risks of artificial general intelligence or AGI &#8211; AI with human-like cognitive abilities &#8211; that instead of worrying \u2018how are we going to use this thing\u2019 mankind should be considering what it will do to us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Geoffrey said: \u201cMost people are unable to comprehend the idea of things more intelligent than us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThey always think, \u2018how are we going to use this thing\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0_Metaverse-An-Avatar-Immersed-in-a-Virtual-World-Conceptual-Illustration.jpg\" alt=\"The experts\u2019 document urged governments to adopt a range of policies \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The experts\u2019 document urged governments to adopt a range of policies (Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThey don\u2019t think about how it&#8217;s going to use us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cI\u2019m fairly confident AI will cause massive unemployment and we\u2019re seeing that already.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWe live in a capitalist society and if some big employer like Microsoft can save on wages by replacing junior programmers with AI that\u2019s what it&#8217;s going to do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIn fact that&#8217;s what it\u2019s done.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe risk I\u2019ve been warning about the most because most people think it\u2019s just science fiction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cBut I want to explain to people that\u2019s not science fiction &#8211; it&#8217;s very real &#8211; is the risk that we develop an AI much smarter than us and it would just take over.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIt won\u2019t need us anymore.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0_Woman-Communicating-With-AI-Robot-During-Job-Interview-In-Office.jpg\" alt=\"Cutting-edge bots should be licensed\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Cutting-edge bots should be licensed, they say(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe good news is it won\u2019t eat us because it\u2019ll be made of silicon so eating us wouldn\u2019t do it much good.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThere\u2019s no chance that the development will be stopped.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIt might be rational to stop it but that\u2019s not going to happen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cSo our only hope is that we can develop it and keep it safe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cAnd that\u2019s what people should be working on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Two years ago Hinton co-authored a policy proposal by 23 boffins slamming the continued production of more powerful AI until tech giants have worked out how to stop \u2018bots wreaking havoc.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The team called for \u2018utterly reckless\u2019 companies that carry on developing \u2018bots before humankind knows how to &#8216;make them safe&#8217; to be held liable for any Terminator-style harm they cause.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Hinton\u2019s co-author Stuart Russell, a professor of computer science at the University of California, Berkeley, US, said &#8216;sandwich shops&#8217;
