{"id":363710,"date":"2025-08-22T04:15:15","date_gmt":"2025-08-22T04:15:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/363710\/"},"modified":"2025-08-22T04:15:15","modified_gmt":"2025-08-22T04:15:15","slug":"saoirse-ronan-tessa-thompson-movies-set-for-bfi-london-film-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/363710\/","title":{"rendered":"Saoirse Ronan, Tessa Thompson Movies Set for BFI London Film Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe Saoirse Ronan-starring Bad Apples will premiere in competition at this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/bfi-london-film-festival\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bfi-london-film-festival_1\" data-tag=\"bfi-london-film-festival\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BFI London Film Festival<\/a>, alongside Nia DaCosta\u2019s Hedda with Tessa Thompson and Mona Fastvold\u2019s The Testament of Ann Lee, led by Amanda Seyfried.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe 69th\u00a0BFI\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/london-film-festival\/\" id=\"auto-tag_london-film-festival_1\" data-tag=\"london-film-festival\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">London Film Festival<\/a>, in partnership with American Express, has confirmed the features selected to screen in official competition at this year\u2019s event. All will compete for the festival\u2019s best film award, announced on Oct. 19.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIrish actor Ronan stars in\u00a0Bad Apples, described as a biting satire with a thriller aftertaste. Directed by\u00a0Jonatan Etzler, the film tells the story of a teacher dealing with a conflictive 11-year-old pupil. The U.K. production is the second movie from its director, writer of the prize-winning short film\u00a0Swimmer\u00a0and the feature\u00a0One More Time\u00a0(2023).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDaCosta (The Marvels, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple) will present Hedda, led by Tessa Thompson and starring Imogen Poots and Tom Bateman. Adapted from the play Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen, the film will first premiere in Toronto before coming to LFF. Elsewhere, George Mackay and Callum Turner feature in the Venice-bound, time travel movie Rose of Nevada, also premiering at LFF, directed by Mark Jenkin. The story follows a fishing vessel that was lost at sea 30 years ago, and mysteriously reappears in the harbour of a fishing village.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMona Fastvold, best known for her Academy Award-nominated work on The Brutalist with partner and co-writer Brady Corbet, will present her sophomore film The Testament of Ann Lee. It stars Seyfried as Ann Lee, the founding leader of the\u00a0Shakers\u00a0religious sect in the 18th century. Thomasin McKenzie, Lewis Pullman,\u00a0Stacy Martin,\u00a0Tim Blake Nelson,\u00a0Christopher Abbott and\u00a0Matthew Beard round out the supporting cast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThis year\u2019s official competition brings together new work from filmmakers across the globe, with films from Yemi Bamiro (Black Is Beautiful: The Kwame Brathwaite Story) and Shahram Mokri (Black Rabbit, White Rabbit). Nicolas Graux and Tr\u01b0\u01a1ng Minh Qu\u00fd will present Hair, Paper, Water\u2026 about an elderly Ruc woman, and Lucrecia Martel will debut Landmarks, a documentary feature about the murder of indigenous leader Javier Chocobar and the legacy of colonialism on\u00a0Latin America.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tRounding out the list of 10 competition films are Kaouther Ben Hania\u2019s The Voice of Hind Rajab, about a five-year-old\u00a0Palestinian\u00a0girl killed by\u00a0Israeli forces\u00a0in the Gaza Strip, and The World of Love by Yoon Ga-eun, following a young 17-year-old student in South Korea.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tKristy Matheson,\u00a0BFI\u00a0London Film Festival director, said:\u00a0\u201cEach title in this selection offers a bold and innovative approach to the medium. We are delighted to welcome filmmakers into the competition who\u2019ve previously screened with the LFF alongside those making their first appearance at the festival.
