1.61 million viewers tuned in for Irene’s farewell, with a national audience of 1.1 million total. <\/p>\n

The episode was the highest-rated episode of Home and Away, confirming fans of the soap wanted to be there for Irene’s big moment. Viewers in the UK will have to wait until 1 October to catch the bittersweet scenes. <\/p>\n

          Earlier this year, it was announced that Lynne McGranger<\/a> would leave the soap after 33 years in the role of Irene.<\/p>\n

          The soap star previously revealed the network had originally planned to axe her character<\/a> a decade into her stint, but writer Coral Druyn “fought” to keep Irene on the show.<\/p>\n

          “She fought for me, for the character,” McGranger said. <\/p>\n

          “They probably felt I’d been painted into a bit of a corner. Sometimes you run in the wrong direction, and that’s life, right? But don’t sit and flounder. Find something about the character.”<\/p>\n

          Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.45pm on Channel 5, with repeat screenings at 6pm on 5STAR and first-look screenings at 6.30pm on 5STAR. Selected classic episodes are available via Prime Video<\/a> in the UK.<\/strong><\/p>\n

          In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 and streams on 7Plus.<\/strong><\/p>\n
