Jake Connor<\/a> and the highest forward by far.<\/p>\nThat is a true reflection of his form this year \u2013 form which saw a new long-term contract secured and his status as arguably the best prop in Super League tied up.<\/p>\n
“I’ve been really happy with how I’ve been going, but there’s always room for improvement,” Ese’ese, speaking to Hull Live, said. “I still want to keep growing and keep getting better.<\/p>\n
“I want to finish off the season strong. Hopefully we can get that top six spot and then turn it up again. I want to take my performances to the next level.<\/p>\n
“It’s getting towards finals now and if we cement that top six spot, I know I can go to another level and turn it up a notch. That motivates me to take my game to another level for the boys.<\/p>\n
“I know I can always find room for improvement and keep stepping up. That’s what I want to do and I’m confident I can put my best forward for this team to get the results we want and be in that top six.”<\/p>\n
Hull are going full steam for that play-off finish now. They’ve battled for it all year and despite some tough setbacks in terms of personnel, their destiny remains in their own hands.<\/p>\n
“It’s been really enjoyable, especially compared to last season,” Ese’ese continued. “Last year wasn’t great, but once we signed John Cartwright, Andy Last, and all the personnel we’ve brought in, I knew things would turn around, and they have.<\/p>\n
“I’m really stoked about that. I’m playing good footy. I’m happy, the boys are happy, and we have the chance now to cement a top six spot. That’s a massive leap from last season but in saying that, there’s still more footy to play.<\/p>\n
“It’s within our reach now, but we’ve still got to take it one game at a time and that starts with St Helens this week. We’re not trying to think too far ahead, but we are confident with the team that we have and we’re going into each game confident that we can get the job done.”<\/p>\n
Hull know the threats and challenges of St Helens, but they are looking at their own borders. They have a new side taking the field again after some key injury blows, but the focus and confidence is there to cement their goals.<\/p>\n
“It’s going to be a tough game for us,” Ese’ese said. “They’ve probably been the in-form team over the last month. They’ve been playing good footy and they’ve got good players, but we’ve got a job to do and it starts with St Helens.<\/p>\n
“We’re definitely in the business end of the season now and this will be a good challenge for us. We go into the game full of confidence and I’m really excited about the matchup.”<\/p>\n
He added: “There’s a lot of quality in our playing group. Last year we didn’t really have that depth, and when someone went down, it was hard to fill their spot, but this year it’s a lot different, and that’s down to the work behind the scenes that’s been put in.<\/p>\n
“We don’t want to look too far ahead or be too complacent, but I’m confident and the boys are confident in this team. We’ve proven it \u2013 we’ve beaten Leigh, we’ve beaten Wigan, and we should take a lot of confidence out of that. We’ve got a tough run now but I believe that we can get the job done.<\/p>\n
“We just need to keep it simple and keep playing the way that we did against Leigh and take that game plan into St Helens.
