An historic Gwynedd mansion, which went on the market last year, is now under offer. Plas Glynllifon, located near Caernarfon, <\/a>was constructed between 1830 and 1840 by Lord Newborough and famously hosted the investiture ball of The Prince of Wales, now King Charles III in 1969.<\/p>\n

However, in recent years the property has lain empty.<\/a> The Grade I listed mansion was sold at the end of 2020 after entering receivership, following a failed attempt by Paul and Rowena Williams to transform it into a luxury hotel.<\/p>\n

The property <\/a>was purchased by Manchester developer David Savage, whose companies also acquired the Seiont Manor hotel in Llanrug.<\/p>\n

He expressed his intention to raise funds through other investments to undertake the multi-million pound renovation work required at Glynllifon.<\/a><\/p>\n

However, plans to develop Seiont – which has been closed since 2020 – have been thwarted by planning refusals from Cyngor Gwynedd.<\/p>\n

Last year, Plas Glynllifon was listed for sale <\/a>with Sidney Phillips for \u00a32m.<\/p>\n

The mansion boasts 40 bedrooms, reports North Wales Live<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to the estate agent’s website, the house is now under offer from a potential buyer. No further details have been disclosed at this point.<\/p>\n

Regarding the mansion, the estate agent stated: “The mansion is located within Plas Glynllifon Country Park which is situated on the A499 between Pwllheli and Caernarfon.<\/p>\n

“The park, owned by Gwynedd Council, is the perfect place to enjoy gardens, wildlife and history; it features an onsite cafe, boutique shops and play areas.<\/p>\n

“The mansion dates back to the 1830s and is Grade I listed.<\/p>\n

“It once belonged to Lord Newborough. The Neoclassical, Grade I listed, detached building is set over three storeys under pitched and flat roofs, and has 102 opulent rooms.<\/p>\n

“It is set in extensive grounds of approximately 16 acres with woodlands, a car park, a brook and its very own bat cave.”<\/p>\n

Plas Glynllifon history<\/p>\n

Plas Glynllifon is a magnificent neo-classical estate house constructed in the 1830\/40s by Lord Newborough and stands on the location of a succession of previous properties at the centre of an historic estate which wielded considerable influence over the countryside and local communities of Caernarfonshire for generations.<\/p>\n

In 1948 the estate was purchased by a timber merchant and in 1954 the property and parkland were acquired by Caernarfonshire County Council, with the structures subsequently passed to Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor.<\/p>\n

In 1969 Plas Glynllifon served as the venue for the Prince of Wales Investiture Ball.<\/p>\n
