The 53-year-old four-time champion has agreed to a celebrity boxing match against Charles \u201cCharlie Mack\u201d Alston, a Philadelphia music industry veteran and former bodyguard for actor Will Smith. The bout was sparked by a viral callout video from Alston, who accused O\u2019Neal of ducking him for years.<\/p>\n

Charles \u201cCharlie Mack\u201d Alston took to Instagram earlier this week with a pointed challenge directed at O\u2019Neal. Sitting beside Celebrity Boxing CEO Damon Feldman, he recalled a decades-old altercation with the Lakers legend.\u201cWe were in Dallas doing an autograph signing, and (O\u2019Neal) came and tried to jump in front of the line,\u201d Alston said. \u201cI chopped him in his neck so he could get back.\u201dFor Alston, the scuffle never quite left the rearview. In his video, he called for the two to settle things once and for all inside the ring. \u201cSo listen, I\u2019m giving you an opportunity to kind of settle the difference. Me and you, baby, super heavyweight. \u2026 I\u2019m calling you \u2018Sha-knocked out.\u2019 That\u2019s what you\u2019re gonna be.\u201dAlston, who stands about 6-foot-6 and weighs close to 290 pounds, clearly sees himself as the underdog against O\u2019Neal, a towering 7-foot-1 who played at 325 pounds during his 19-year NBA career. But he\u2019s embracing the size disparity as part of the spectacle.<\/p>\n

Shaquille O\u2019Neal accepts Charles \u201cCharlie Mack\u201d Alston\u2019s callout <\/p>\n

NBA Hall of Famer, O\u2019Neal accepted the callout for a match. First, he dropped a simple \u201cI accept, let\u2019s do it\u201d in Alston\u2019s Instagram comments. Hours later, he extended his reaction with his own video.\u201cHey celebrity boxing and Charlie Mack, I accept,\u201d O\u2019Neal said with a grin. \u201cYou name the time and place, I\u2019ll be there. Diesel don\u2019t run from nobody.\u201dHe continued, \u201cYou chopped me in my neck, Charlie Mack, that\u2019s why I talk so funny. Payback time. You better check my police record, Charlie Mack.\u201dIt was vintage Shaq, half-joking, half-threatening alongside his inherent charisma. His acceptance immediately sent the clip viral on social media for obvious reason as this could become the biggest event in Official Celebrity Boxing\u2019s history.On his own Instagram page, Alston celebrated the exchange. \u201cSo I call Big Fella @shaq out yesterday & he accepted as I knew he would!!!! We\u2019ve been talking about it way too long, now we MUST get it ON!!!!!!!!\u2019\u2019 he wrote, alongside a mock fight poster featuring both men.This wouldn\u2019t be O\u2019Neal\u2019s first time lacing up gloves. Over the years, he\u2019s taken part in playful exhibition bouts with boxing legends Oscar De La Hoya and Shane Mosley.
