Police are currently at the scene of a security alert in north Belfast.<\/p>\n

A public safety operation is underway following the discovery of a suspicious device on Victoria Parade in the New Lodge. <\/p>\n

It began shortly after 11.30am on Friday morning.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s understood around 100 residents have been evacuated. <\/p>\n

Police have urged the public to avoid the area at this time.<\/p>\n

Sinn F\u00e9in councillor JJ Magee has urged people to follow the advice of authorities. <\/p>\n

Police launch murder investigation following stabbing incident in west Belfast<\/p>\n

\u201cThe PSNI is currently dealing with a suspect device in the New Lodge,” he said. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhile this incident is ongoing, I would ask for patience and we hope the area can be cleared as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cBelfast City Council is working to find suitable premises for residents while the alert is going.<\/p>\n
