Update 22nd August 2025: More than 18,000 letters sent to Ofgem<\/strong><\/p>\n

More than 18,000 letters have been sent to Ofgem<\/strong> by Best for Britain supporters telling them to reject Elon Musk\u2019s application for a licence to supply energy in the UK.<\/p>\n

Thank you to all those who joined the campaign. <\/strong>The deadline for responding to Ofgem about the licence application has now ended and we will watch and wait for Ofgem to publish their decision.<\/p>\n

The campaign made headlines, with coverage in the Guardian<\/a>, Independent<\/a>, The National<\/a>, LBC<\/a>, ITV and o<\/a>ur CEO, Naomi Smith, appeared on Lewis Goodall’s LBC radio show<\/a> to discuss the issue, arguing:\u00a0<\/p>\n

“When we look at the things he has done against our own country; he has said that civil war in the UK is inevitable, he repeatedly stoked the riots last year sharing falsified stories and doctored images, he has been supporting Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (Tommy Robinson\u2019s) legal fees”<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen he ran DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) in the USA, he suggested you should ignore all federal regulations and actually called for the wholesale removal of regulations during a call he hosted on X\u201d<\/p>\n

We wrote to Miatta Fahnbulleh MP<\/strong>, the Minister for Energy Consumers highlighting the thousands of people who had taken time to contact Ofgem, a number which rose to 18,778<\/strong> before the 22nd August 2025 deadline for comments to Ofgem on Tesla\u2019s application.<\/p>\n

Our letter expressed our collective concern regarding the suitability of Musk as a \u2018fit and proper\u2019 individual to be given a foothold in our essential services. Read the full letter to the Minister below:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Elon Musk has applied for a licence to supply energy in the UK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Musk uses his business interests to promote dangerous conspiracy theories and support radical and far-right figures – even in the UK. He turned Twitter into an incubator for rightwing hate, has made public statements to undermine the British Government and helped Trump secure a second term as US president – something that continues to change our world in profoundly dangerous ways.<\/p>\n

Musk has made clear he is not a \u2018fit and proper\u2019 person to be given a foothold in our essential services. Giving him any influence in our energy market is a risk the UK can\u2019t afford to take and we have the power to do something about it.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is up to the energy regulator Ofgem<\/a> to decide and we have until\u00a0 Friday 22nd August <\/strong>to tell them to throw Tesla’s application in the bin.<\/p>\n
