{"id":365224,"date":"2025-08-22T17:56:35","date_gmt":"2025-08-22T17:56:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/365224\/"},"modified":"2025-08-22T17:56:35","modified_gmt":"2025-08-22T17:56:35","slug":"united-passengers-from-new-york-to-london-endured-a-flight-to-nowhere-and-an-11-hour-delay-then-got-to-the-uk-after-their-original-plane","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/365224\/","title":{"rendered":"United passengers from New York to London endured a flight to nowhere and an 11-hour delay \u2014 then got to the UK after their original plane"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul class=\"mb-4\">\n<li class=\"ml-4 list-disc\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A United Airlines flight to London returned to Newark less than two hours after takeoff.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ml-4 list-disc\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Passengers arrived in England 11 hours later on a different aircraft.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"ml-4 list-disc\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The original aircraft then operated another flight to London and landed before the deplaned passengers.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">After a <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/why-united-best-airline-first-class-travel-frequent-traveler-2025-6?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:United Airlines flight;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">United Airlines flight<\/a> U-turned and landed back in Newark, passengers reached London 11 hours later than expected, and after their original plane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Thursday&#8217;s Flight 934 took off from <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/united-ceo-says-newark-back-to-normal-after-begging-improvement-2025-7?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Newark Liberty International Airport;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Newark Liberty International Airport<\/a> shortly after 9 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">However, data from Flightradar24 shows that just around 20 minutes later, the Boeing 767 turned around short of Boston.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It then circled half a dozen times over upstate New York before landing back at Newark, 1 hour and 45 minutes after departing from there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Returning to the flight&#8217;s origin, known as a <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/how-airlines-decide-where-to-divert-planes-flights-to-nowhere-2024-6?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:flight to nowhere;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">flight to nowhere<\/a>, can make it easier to reroute passengers or fix any issues with the aircraft. Newark is one of United&#8217;s seven hub airports.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A United spokesperson said the flight &#8220;returned to Newark to address a possible maintenance issue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The 767 involved in the incident, registered as N684UA, is 22 years old.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;The flight landed safely, and all passengers deplaned normally at the gate,&#8221; the spokesperson said. &#8220;We arranged for a different aircraft to take our customers to London, which landed at 7:30 a.m. local time on Friday.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Flight-tracking data shows the second flight, UAL934D, took off from Newark shortly after 8 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">That means passengers had a nine-hour wait in New Jersey before they were back on their way to London.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The first plane was scheduled to touch down in England at 8:40 p.m. local time Thursday, but ultimately, passengers arrived just over 11 hours later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Meanwhile, flight-tracking data shows the plane with the &#8220;possible maintenance issue&#8221; arrived in London first on Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">After diverting back to Newark, N684UA also operated Thursday&#8217;s Flight 14.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It took off at 7:21 p.m. ET and landed in London at 6:58 a.m. local time, 24 minutes before UAL934D.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration told Business Insider it didn&#8217;t have a report about the flight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Do you have a story to share about a recent flight diversion?
