Tributes have been paid to a Trafford councillor described as a ‘wonderful person’ and a ‘champion’ of young people.<\/p>\n
The death of Denise Western, who served as a Labour<\/a> representative for Broadheath since 2012, was announced this evening. Her son, Andrew Western, is the Labour MP for Stretford<\/a> and Urmston<\/a>.<\/p>\n Trafford<\/a> Labour said: “It is with great sadness that we have to announce that our good friend and Trafford Labour colleague, Cllr Denise Western, died peacefully this morning following a short illness.<\/p>\n “Denise was first elected as a councillor for Broadheath in May 2012 and we know local residents and community groups will be saddened by this news.<\/p>\n Never miss a story with the MEN’s daily Catch Up newsletter – get it in your inbox by signing up here<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n “She held many roles during her time as a local councillor, including as Chair of Trafford Council\u2019s Children\u2019s Scrutiny Committee. Denise was a champion of children and young people and ensured their voices were heard. Our thoughts are with Denise\u2019s family at this time.”<\/p>\n Coun Tom Ross, leader of Trafford council, said: “Such very sad news today. Denise was a wonderful person, great colleague and supportive friend to all our group members.<\/p>\n
