{"id":366454,"date":"2025-08-23T05:08:34","date_gmt":"2025-08-23T05:08:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/366454\/"},"modified":"2025-08-23T05:08:34","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T05:08:34","slug":"nhs-grampian-and-orkney-apologise-for-cancer-patients-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/366454\/","title":{"rendered":"NHS Grampian and Orkney apologise for cancer patient&#8217;s care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The SPSO investigated complaints raised by the patient&#8217;s family and ordered the health boards to apologise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It said there was a failure to provide a reasonable standard of care and treatment to patient A, and that both authorities had failed to meet obligations on transparency around the patient&#8217;s care.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The watchdog also made a number of recommendations for improvements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The SPSO took advice from a cancer surgeon on the services provided to patient A.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Commenting on NHS Grampian, the watchdog said: &#8220;We found that there was a failure to provide a reasonable standard of care and treatment to A, particularly in relation to delays in initiating treatment for their colorectal (bowel) cancer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It said reviews of the person&#8217;s care were inadequate, and that its handling of the complaint against it was &#8220;unreasonable&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The SPSO said about NHS Orkney: &#8220;We found that there was a failure to provide a reasonable standard of care and treatment to A, particularly in relation to a failure to mark an MRI scan request as urgent, and a failure to report the results of scopes in the normal way.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The SPSO investigated complaints raised by the patient&#8217;s family and ordered the health boards to apologise.
