\n Strathbungo in the Southside<\/a> has been named one of the best and coolest places\u00a0to live by both The Sunday Times and Time Out.\n<\/p>\n

\n Earlier this year, the Sunday newspaper\u00a0highlighted some of the things that make this area, which is sandwiched between Govanhill,\u00a0Pollokshields and Shawlands, truly special.\n<\/p>\n

Why Strathbungo could be the coolest neighbourhood in Glasgow and Scotland<\/p>\n

\n “Community initiatives include the annual Bungo in the Back Lanes festival, Bungo at the Bells outdoor Hogmanay celebration and the Window Wanderland art trail.”\n<\/p>\n

\n The newspaper added: “The Alexander \u201cGreek\u201d Thomson terrace on Moray Place adds a touch of elegance to the grid of streets, while La Gelatessa gelateria is perhaps the pick of a strong selection of independent shops, cafes and bars.”\n<\/p>\n

\n In Time Out<\/a>‘s coolest<\/a> places list, the neighbourhood<\/a> was named alongside locations around the globe, including\u00a0Mers Sultan in\u00a0Casablanca and\u00a0Kerns, Portland, in the United States.\n<\/p>\n

\n The Starthbungo Society<\/a>, which aims to promote the “thriving community” in Glasgow<\/a>, said the area is home to “magnificent architecture” and a\u00a0classic\u00a0Victorian street plan.\n<\/p>\n

\n Discussing the\u00a0diversity here, the society said that this\u00a0is a “microcosm of much of what we find interesting and delightful in the world.”\n<\/p>\n

\n Historically, the area, which neighbours Queen’s Park,\u00a0wasn’t always a busy urban pocket and originally started out as a small, isolated\u00a0village\u00a0along\u00a0Pollokshaws Road.\n<\/p>\n

\n In the 18th century, it was home to miners and crofters, and\u00a0by the 19th century, newer developments began popping up, setting the stage for it\u00a0to become\u00a0a residential suburb linked to Glasgow by rail.\n<\/p>\n

\n By the\u00a01860s, tenements\u00a0started to appear, and the last of the original village\u00a0was lost in the 1890s.\n<\/p>\n
