{"id":366874,"date":"2025-08-23T09:23:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-23T09:23:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/366874\/"},"modified":"2025-08-23T09:23:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T09:23:11","slug":"broughton-high-school-teacher-nicola-daniel-the-nen-north-edinburgh-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/366874\/","title":{"rendered":"Broughton High School teacher Nicola Daniel \u2013 The NEN \u2013 North Edinburgh News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\"><strong>The shortlist for the\u00a0Scots Language Awards 2025\u00a0has been unveiled, with figures from Scottish literature, theatre, education and business all in the running for awards at the annual ceremony.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/SLA_logo_B_FINAL.png?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1182\" height=\"696\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/SLA_logo_B_FINAL.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-211749\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Nicola Daniel<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0<strong>Broughton High School<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>is nominated for\u00a0Scots Teacher of the Year\u00a0for her dedication to the language in her teaching<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">She is one of 45 individuals and organisations nominated who each showcase the Scots language in their own unique way. 2025 nominees hail from across Scotland and voting is open until<strong>\u00a0Sunday 31st August<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Scots tongue was given official status as a language earlier this year with the unanimous passing of the Scottish Languages Bill. Now in its seventh year, the\u00a0<strong>Scots Language Awards<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 organised by cultural advocacy organisation\u00a0<strong>Hands Up For Trad\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 aim to recognise the importance of the Scottish indigenous language to daily Scottish life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Returning to Dundee, the 2025 awards will be held at\u00a0<strong>Discovery Point\u00a0<\/strong>on<strong>\u00a0Saturday 6th September<\/strong>\u00a0and hosted by Dundee\u2019s own\u00a0<strong>Taylor Dyson,<\/strong>\u00a0who is this year\u2019s National Library of Scotland Scots Scriever, and Scots folk singer from Angus,\u00a0<strong>Lynne Campbell<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Award-hosts-Lynne-Campbell-and-Taylor-Dyson-scaled.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1440\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Award-hosts-Lynne-Campbell-and-Taylor-Dyson-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-211750\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Scots Language Awards host Taylor Dyson said:\u00a0\u201cScots is oor language \u2013 it\u2019s intrinsically linked to oor culture and we are so proud tae celebrate it.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThis is a chance tae gie credit tae aa the guid fowk daein work in Scots. We\u2019ll be gien oot awards tae teachers wha promote Scots in scuils, tae actors yaisin Scots on stage, fowk scrievin books for bairns an adults, as weel as aa sorts o ither awards. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe would encourage folk tae cast a vote for the projects, poets, businesses and figures they reckon deserve it maist and why not come alang for a celebration of all things Scots in
