Police launch murder investigation following stabbing incident in west Belfast<\/p>\n

The brother of a man stabbed to death in west Belfast has appeared in court charged with his murder.<\/p>\n

Martin Lowry was remanded in custody at Lisburn Magistrates Court this morning.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old, of no fixed abode, is accused of the murder of his brother Shane on Thursday evening, August 21.<\/p>\n

He is further charged with possession of a knife.<\/p>\n

Police previously said Shane Lowry, who was aged in his 30s, had been stabbed in the Mulberry Park area.<\/p>\n

Lowry spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth during a brief appearance at Lisburn Magistrates Court this morning.<\/p>\n

None of the alleged background facts of the incident were opened in court during the hearing.<\/p>\n

A PSNI detective said she believed she could connect the accused to the charges.<\/p>\n

No application for bail was made.<\/p>\n

Asked by Judge Eamonn King to clarify the relationship between the defendant and victim, the court heard they were brothers.<\/p>\n

Lowry was remanded into custody to appear back in court via video link on September 15.<\/p>\n

On Friday Danny Baker, a local Sinn Fein MLA, said there was shock and sadness in the local community following the death.<\/p>\n
